#38 An Energized Intercessor

Samuel Chadwick: Have you ever heard of "Praying Hyde"? The fact that John Hyde came by the universal accord of his intimates to be called "Praying Hyde" dates back to the day when he received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

In that experience his amazing prayer life began. The recorded answers to prayer are the least part of his record. He prayed the Indian Keswick into existence. He prayed thousands into the Kingdom of God and hundreds of laborers into the harvest fields of God. (Google image, Praying Hyde)

Above and beyond all this he prayed himself into the mystery of fellowship in our Lord's intercession. The secret of his prayer life is that it was a life of prayer.

He was in England in 1911. He went to a mission service where Wilbur Chapman and Charlie Alexander were having a hard time. He took the burden of the mission upon his heart and prayed until victory came.

After a meeting of wonderful power, Dr. Chapman asked Mr. Hyde to pray for him, and this is his account of what happened:

He came to my room, turned the key in the door, dropped
on his knees, waited five minutes without a single syllable
coming from his lips. I could hear my own heart thumping
and his beating. I felt the hot tears running down my face.
I knew I was with God. Then with upturned face, down
which the tears were steaming, he said: "Oh, God!"
Then for five minutes at least he was still again, and then,
when he knew he was talking with God, his arm went
around my shoulder, and there came up from the depth of
his heart such petitions for men as I had never heard before.
I rose from my knees to know what real prayer was. We
believe that prayer is mighty, and we believe it as we never
      did before.

I am aware that such records of prayer life may discourage where they were meant to inspire. I am not asking that you and I should be fashioned after the pattern of exceptional men, but I do rejoice that whatever was given to one is available for all.

Let's pray-

Father, we see that the secret of John Hyde's prayer life was that it was a life of prayer.
The records of his prayer life may discourage some folks, but they're to inspire us to pursue You in our own praying efforts, that we'll be fashioned after the pattern of this exceptional man.
We must remember that what You give to one for exceptional praying is available for us all. Help us pray ourselves into the mystery of the fellowship in our Lord's intercession!
May we come humbly each time we pray, asking and expecting the Holy Spirit to enable us to sense Your Presence, to guide us in making our praying exceptional in Your sight.
This is what we pray in Jesus' name. Amen

Today's Bible verses-

Ps. 27:14 "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage,
and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait I say, on
       the LORD."

Luke 10:19“Behold, I have given you authority to
tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”

John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that
in me you may have peace. In this world you will
have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the
       world."

Today's quotes-

~ Jill Savage- "
It’s nearly impossible to change your behavior without changing what’s going on inside your head. Romans 12:2 tells us that we need to renew our mind. When we slow down our responses, consider our options, and then choose our next step, we are actually allowing God to mature us. We’re allowing the Holy Spirit to influence us and renew our mind."

~ Elisabeth Elliot- "Prayer lays hold of God's plan and becomes the link between His will and its accomplishment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we are given the privilege of being the channels of the Holy Spirit's prayer."

Did you know?

~ Personal fulfillment is not found in the pursuit of personal fulfillment, but in the fruit of pursuing God's heart and purpose for our lives.
One of the discoveries we make is that if it matters to us, it matters to God.

Today's popular post-

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: "The Spirit empowers you to pray. Do you feel you have so little prayer power? Of course, you do. None of us has prayer power in ourselves.
The role of the Holy Spirit is to empower. He wants to express His power through you as you prevail for the burdens on His heart."

Today's question-

        Will you leave a legacy?

Yes, we will all leave a legacy of some sort. What it will entail remains to be seen, as to our character, preferences and lifestyle. They'll determine the influence we'll leave on family and friends.
As believers in Christ we have a huge opportunity to leave a legacy that points to God and His love for us. We're to steward the gifts He has given to each of us, to where we allow Him to use us to help guide others to know and love Him.
We're to ask God for directions for our children's lives, as He has given each of them giftings too, to benefit others, and to strengthen their own relationship with Him.
The Holy Spirit is given to us upon receiving Christ as our Savior and Lord, to help us live lives which honor Jesus, and which will point others to Him as the One we're to fully trust in now, and forever. Over time, as we are strengthened in our faith, we will have influence on those around us at work, in our homes and churches and in whatever ministry we are entrusted with. May we leave a good legacy when we leave this life for eternity; hopefully, having made our choice to be with Christ.
