Brokenness: The Heart God Revives

Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth- Proud people focus on the failures of others.
Broken people are overwhelmed with a sense of their own spiritual need.

Proud people have a critical, fault-finding spirit; they look at everyone else's faults with a microscope but their own with a telescope. (Google image, Brokenness the Heart God Revives)

Broken People are compassionate; they can forgive much because they know how much they have been forgiven.

Proud People have an independent, self-sufficient spirit.
Broken people have a dependent spirit; they recognize their need for others.

Proud people have to prove that they are right.
Broken people are willing to yield the right to be right.

Proud people claim rights; they have a demanding spirit.
Broken people yield their rights; they have a meek spirit.

Proud people are self-protective of their time, their rights, and their reputation.
Broken people are self-denying.

Proud people desire to be served.
Broken people are motivated to serve others.

Proud people desire to be a success.
Broken people are motivated to be faithful and to make others a success.

   Proud people desire self-advancement.
Broken people desire to promote others.

Proud people have a drive to be recognized and appreciated.
Broken people have a sense of their own unworthiness; they are thrilled that God would use them at all.

Proud people are wounded when others are promoted and they are overlooked.
Broken people are eager for others to get the credit; they rejoice when others are lifted up.

Proud people have a subconscious feeling, "This ministry/church is privileged to have me and my gifts"; they think of what they can do for God.
Broken people's heart attitude is, "I don't deserve to have a part in any ministry"; they know that they have nothing to offer God except the life of Jesus flowing through their broken lives.

Proud people feel confident in how much they know.
Broken people are humbled by how very much they have to learn.

Habakkuk 2:4 (NKJV) "Behold the proud, his soul is
not upright in him; but the just shall live by his faith."

Gwen Smith
"Let me encourage you to stop with the excuses. I’m living proof that God can free anyone from shame and use anyone for His purpose.
Step up to the burning bush – into God’s presence. Listen to His voice. Obey. Follow. Take courage. Trust Him with your past and with your tomorrows. Allow grace to direct what your mission should look like.

Let's pray-

Dear God, with a trembling heart, I ask You to show me the plans you have for me. Bind me to Your Word and to Your strength so I will have the courage to obey. May my brokenness be restored and redeemed for the beauty of Your glory.
In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen." (Gwen Smith)

86 - 90 of 100 one-line Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more this week-

86. Col. 2:6 "As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him."

87. Prov. 16:9 "A man's heart deviseth his way; but the LORD directeth his steps."

88. Ps. 91:4 "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust."

89. 2 Thess. 3:13 "But ye brethren, be not weary in well doing."

90. Is. 31:21 "Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the king of Jacob."

Today's quote-

~ Corrie ten Boom, survivor of the Holocaust, who spent the rest of her long life in weary travel and speaking, pointing people to Jesus. She would show the back side of an embroidery project, full of knots and stray threads, and not very pretty. But turned over, it revealed a glittery crown. She’d quote this poem:

My life is but a weaving / Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colors / He weaveth steadily.
Oft’ times He weaveth sorrow; / And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper/ And I the underside.
Not ’til the loom is silent/ And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas/ And reveal the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful/ In the weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver/ In the pattern He has planned.
He knows, He loves, He cares;/ Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives the very best to those/
Who leave the choice to Him.”

Words of wisdom-

~ Do you look at what is practical reality, and are fearful? Ask God to open your eyes of understanding of true reality.

~ Active confession is confession in what God says. Biblical reality goes beyond what's practical reality. Proclaim God's reality over the natural, negative reality.

Why Is My Child’s Behavior Prickly?

Mike and Kristin Berry

"When our child’s behavior becomes off-putting, or prickly, it’s often hard to remember that it’s an indication of something bigger going on with them. Remembering this, however, can change how we approach our children . . . "
