#6 Temples of the Spirit

Andrew Murray- The Spirit has been poured out. He is yearning over us, and He is ready and able to take possession of His Church. Let us be ready to confess honestly the current state of the Church and the share we have in it.

Let all who believe in the love and almighty power of God proclaim that God is longing to fill his redeemed people with the power of the Spirit. (Google image, Woman worshipping by lake)

God will manifest Himself to all who are longing to be temples of the Holy Spirit, filled with His power, and ready for the service of the living God.

What is the connection between the indwelling Spirit and the devotion of daily life? Our aim in our secret devotions must by to cast aside the ordinary standard of religion and make God's standard our unceasing desire.

The Spirit has been given to us to reveal Christ and His life in us. No true progress can be made until we choose to live in unceasing dependence on the power of the Spirit in every area of our lives.

We must avoid the great hindrances along the way. We need to realize God's right to have absolute control of our lives. Our faith in His gracious and tender love will accomplish His work of power in our hearts.

Ignorance of the power of the world as the great enemy of the blessed Spirit is dangerous. Unwillingness to take up the cross of Christ and follow Him can only be overcome by the Spirit.

We must maintain that deep conviction of what a holy and almighty work it is  for the Holy Spirit to take possession of our life and carry out His one desire—to make Christ live within us.

This great work is carried and accomplished in our daily devotions. With God's help, we will grow strong in faith, giving glory to God, trusting in Him to carry our His work in us.

The goal of God in the gift of the Holy Spirit was to enable His people to become what they could never become in the Old Testament.

God does not expect us to strengthen and maintain our own spiritual life. That is the work of His Holy Spirit. Only the soul who lives in entire surrender to and dependence on the blessed Spirit can effectually carry on God's mighty work and accomplish all His blessed purposes.

Let's pray-

Father, as the Spirit of Jesus has been poured out on believers, and is yearning over us to take possession of His Church, may we be ready to confess honestly the current state of the Church, and to share in the part we play.
May those of us who believe in the love and almighty power You proclaim be filled with this power, and ready for service.
May we make the connection between the indwelling Spirit of Christ and the devotion of our daily life, and let it be our sole aim in our secret devotions.
We see that no true progress can be made until we choose to live in unceasing dependence on the power of Your Spirit in every area of our lives.
Help us avoid the hindrances along the way, and to understand that Christ Jesus has the right to have absolute control over our lives. May we be willing to take up our cross and follow Him by the help of His Spirit within us.
We ask this in His name, and for Your glory. Amen

Today's Bible verses-

(Ps. 139:23-24 MSG) "Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me; Cross-examine and
test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See
for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—
then guide me on the road to eternal life."

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and
active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it
penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints
and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes
       of the heart.”

Psalm 73:26 (NIV) “My flesh and my heart may
fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my
       portion forever.”

Today's quotes-

~ Jean Nicolas Grou- "Teach me Thy way, O Lord,
and lead me in a plain path" (Psa. 27:11).
"God only is holy; He alone knows how to lead His children in the paths of holiness. He knows every aspect of your soul, every thought of your heart, every secret of your character, its difficulties and hindrances. He knows how to mold you to His will and lead you onwards to perfect sanctification.
The consequences of this belief, if fully grasped, will influence your whole life. You will seek to give yourself up to God more and more unreservedly, asking nothing, refusing nothing, wishing nothing but what He wills; not seeking to bring things about for yourself, taking all He sends joyfully and believing the 'one step'
set before you to be enough for you."

~ J. Harold Smith- "The strongest argument for the truth of Christianity is the Spirit-filled life. The best way to bring men to a belief in miracles is to exhibit the miracle of regeneration and its power in our lives. The best proof of Christ's resurrection is a Christian living the risen life. (1910-2001)

Words of wisdom-

We have one foot on earth and one foot in heaven when we walk in the Light Christ gives. Anticipating future events can become a curse when misused, causing worry.
No matter what we lose, we can never lose Christ's relationship, as He is always with us. We may feel distant from Him, but He is always with us.
