How to Regain Spiritual Strength

James H. Cagle- The Bible (KJV) says, “My soul melteth for heaviness: strengthen thou me according unto thy word” (Ps. 119: 28).

Our soul melteth, or in other words, becomes weak, because of the heaviness of the weight of things that weigh us down. The heaviness that we carry around until it has made us weak, can be the sins of hate, envy, unforgiving spirit, and that of carrying a grudge. Our heaviness that “melteth” could be the weight of fiery trials and the pain, heartache, sorrow and suffering they put on us.

If we become weak, and our soul “melteth” as the Psalmist, from the many things that bring us heaviness of heart, it’s because we have not cast our cares upon the Lord as we’re commanded to (1 Pet. 5: 7), nor laid them aside that we might “run with patience the race that is set before us” (Heb. 12: 1).

Jesus says to us, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burdens light” (Mt. 11: 28-30).

Not wanting to remain in this weak state, the Psalmist asks, as we do, for the Lord to strengthen him according to, or in conformity to His Word, which is according to His will.

The strength asked for is not the kind we see in might, in power, or activity, but rather in quiet confident trust in God through inactivity. We are strengthened, and our weakness leaves us, when our faith and trust and confidence in God is restored and we cast those cares that weigh us down at the feet of Jesus.

Israel, when under attack by Assyria, turned to Egypt and relied upon its strength to deliver them, was told “Their strength is to sit still.” That, “. . . in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: but ye would not” (Is. 30: 7, 15).

Israel was weak because of her rebellion against God. She could have become strong and could have overcome her enemy if she had repented of her sins and trusted in God to help her, but she would not.

We should daily cast all our care upon the Lord, before we become laden down with sin and anxiety, and become weak. We should with confidence, say with the Psalmist, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Ps. 27: 1).

How to Regain Spiritual Strength

Let's pray-

"Father, I want to be more like You. Give me the strength to withstand the trials in my life. Help me love the people who are hard to love and forgive the people who have hurt and even abused me. Burn away the sin in my life and empower me to live for You. Create a clean heart in me, Lord, and teach me how to trust You and live for You.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen."  (

I Rejoice in You

"I do not condemn you. I rejoice in you. I am enamored with the life that is in you that is made for eternal fellowship with Me. My life in you that has made you new—this is who I see. I see your life in Me. I see your strength in Me. I see your hope and joy in Me. I see the essence of who you are in Me. Your life is in Me."

381-385 one-line KJV Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more verses this week- or to review them from when they were first posted-

381- Ps. 108:5 "Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth."

382- Job 17:9 "The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger."

383- Ps. 150:2 "Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness."

394- Ps. 119:59 "I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies."

385- Pro. 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Today's quotes-

~ Oswald Chambers-  "Where there is no revelation [or prophetic vision] . . . " Once we lose sight of God, we begin to be reckless. We cast off certain restraints from activities we know are wrong. We set prayer aside as well and cease having God's vision in the little things of life. We simply begin to act on our own Initiative. If we are eating only out of our own hand, and doing things solely on our own initiative without expecting God to come in, we are on a downward path. We have lost the vision. Is our attitude today an attitude that flows from our vision of God? Are we expecting God to do greater things than He has ever done before? Is there a freshness and a vitality in our spiritual outlook?"

Mary Southerland- "God is not committed to our comfort. He is committed to our character. Only God can exchange the ashes of our sin for the beauty of His forgiveness and grace. God alone can replace our despair with His peace that passes all understanding. Hope can only be found in Him. Our purpose in life is to know and become more like Jesus … and act just like our Father."

Words of wisdom-

~ What can we do to bring comfort to someone? Is there a way to encourage them? What if we send a note or make a call? Won't that lift their spirit and yours? Let's minister to someone today and let God's love shine through to brighten their day!
