AN IMPOSSIBLE GIFT

~ Kristen Holmberg- I was elated to find the perfect gift for my mother-in-law's birthday: the bracelet even contained her birthstone! Giving that perfect gift for someone is always an utter delight. But what if the gift the individual needs is beyond our power to give. (Google image, Perfect bow)

Many of us wish we could give someone peace of mind, rest, or even patience. If only those could be purchased and wrapped with a bow!

These typs of gifts are impossible for one person to give to another. Yet Jesus—God in human flesh—does give those who believe in Him one such 'impossible' gift: the gift of peace.

Before ascending to heaven and leaving the deciples, Jesus comforted them with the promise of the Holy Spirit: He "will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" (John 14:26).

He offered them peace—His peace—as an enduring, unfailing gift for when their hearts were troubled or when they were experiencing fear. He, Himself, is our peace with God, with others, and within.

We may not have the ability to give our loved ones the extra measure of patience or improved health they desire. Nor is it within our power to give them the peace we all desperately need to bear up under the struggles of life.

But we can be led by the Spirit to speak to them about Jesus, the giver and embodiment of true and lasting peace.

Let's pray-

Father, our challenge in selecting gifts, sometimes is hard, because of the person's preferences and what we can afford. Many of us long to give others peace of mind, rest and even patience, if only they could be purchased and wrapped with bows.

This type of a gift is impossible for us to give to another, but we can pray for them to seek the Lord Jesus' peace that He gives for those who ask Him. It's an impossible gift for us, but not for Him!

We pray for Your help in the challenges we'll face, in the name of Jesus, the Peace-Giver! Amen.

#19 Testimony- Shawn

"God has faithfully walked us through an 11+- year cancer battle. My husband first, and then myself. He has been our Rock when we were crumbling; our strength when we were weak; our praise in the night; and our loving Savior all through the weeks.

He has faithfully met us each and every day, as we chose to stick by Him and listen to His voice. He gave me a song to sing over my husband about “no doubt,” which became our song of triumph, singing it while traveling to every treatment, and whenever we needed that extra boost of faith.

He showed me how to be the best cheerleader I could be for my husband, and how to keep him free from the naysayers; even if it was family. We chose to keep professing life, not death, as God’s Word teaches us.

We asked for opportunities to minister His love whenever we had appointments or treatments, to uplift those we saw in need. He honored us with blessing people every single time. The focus was off us for treatments and onto the one who was our Great Healer!

Bottom line; there’s nothing He can’t do if you trust and obey, even if He’s still using you layer upon layer to show others of His faithfulness. Standing on His healing Scriptures by believing and receiving them, is meant to be key in the building up our faith. You cannot do this on your own. Keep your circle of faith-filled prayer warriors small, knowing who laborers among you well; it keeps you grounded and positive! Stay strong and fight the good fight.

Recommended reading:

"Prayer is given and ordained for the purpose of glorifying God." "This takes us beyond all those manipulative attempts to get God to give us something
which Hallesby calls a pagan rather than a Christian approach to prayer. Prayer is not using God to our own ends, nor is it making something happen. No. prayer is dependence, openness, trust, and a listening love."

#19 Hymn- When We Walk With the Lord- (Trust and Obey)
The information about this song, When We Walk With the Lord, (Trust and Obey), is taken from the book by Robert J. MorganTHEN SINGS MY SOUL   (pg. 221)

~ Daniel B. Towner, who wrote the melody to this song, When We Walk With the Lord, (Trust And Obey), inherited his love of music from his father, Professor J. G. Towner, a beloved vocalist and music teacher. He later served churches in Ohio and Kentucky before being tapped by evangelist D. L. Moody in the fall of 1885. For several hears, Daniel traveled with Moody, singing and doing personal work.
Towner grew discouraged while he was working on the music to "Trust and Obey." But his wife found the crumpled paper, and encouraged him to work some more on it, as she thought it was the melody needed to carry the message.

 Some encouraging words-

~ Jesus had to grow up in a human family, just like us. He had to accept the limitations of childhood, learn to walk and talk, live among human brothers and sisters, to read and write in Hebrew, to work and take responsibility in his family. He had to learn to obey his parents. He understands what it is like to be three, or eight, or eleven!
