SATISFY YOUR HEART

Diane Ohlson-

"I am one of those people who is generally happy but who can also quickly lose that happiness when faced with something. Scripture showed me that I experienced the ups and downs because I kept focusing on the wrong things.(Satisfy Your Heart)

Basing our happiness on surface-level stuff is easy. We build happiness around people, plans, possessions, titles, and achievements. Satan fools us into believing that we can achieve happiness if we become whoever or have whatever. This is a problem. Satan doesn't remind us our world is sinful or that many details are outside of our control. Instead, he works to keep us on this path of desire.

Framing happiness around things that can break, people who may disappoint, and titles and classes that can change is dangerous. With all the noise around us, it's hard to remember that contentment is a matter of the heart. The shift back starts by widening our perspective and recognizing the need to depend on something greater.

We must center our hearts around something that can weather the storms. God's love can do that, and it is enough. God's love is unlike any love felt here. His love is too great to understand fully. His love is steadfast and eternal and will never let us down. It can protect, isn't earned, and is freely given. God's love is something we should and can depend on above anything else.

If we place God's love at our core, we won't experience life's ups and downs as earth-shaking. Accepting it as enough permits us to let life's disappointments pass us by without rocking our foundation. Putting God and His love for us as the thing that matters most is the secret sauce to keeping a joyful heart.

Let Jesus show you the path to joy because God knows you personally by name. Let God's love fill your shortcomings and shine brightness into the dreary days. Call on God's love to satisfy your heart so you can rejoice and be glad daily."

"Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days." Psalm 90:14 ESV

Let's pray-

Father, many of us are generally happy, but we can qwickly lose that happiness when faced with a difficult situation. Your Word shows us that when we experience ups and downs, we're not focussing on You.
We tend to build our happiness around people, plans, possessions, titles and achievements, the surface-level stuff. This is a problem, as Satan doesn't remind us of our sinful actions, but rather, he works to keep us on this path of desire.
We ask for Your help to make wise decisions for our lives! In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

#85 Quote- James Banks

"With God, in a far more profound way, stillness accomplishes what constant motion and effort cannot. The stillness of our souls as we learn to rest in Him through prayer is something He blesses. 'Be still, and know that I am God,' He tells us (Psalm 46:10). The Hebrew word rendered 'be still' is also sometimes translated as 'cease striving.' When we stop pushing, God meets us with His peace, and we find ourselves in the place where we were always meant to be." James Banks in Peace through Prayer  (pg.91).

1461-1465 One-line Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more verses this week- or to review them from when they were first posted-

1461- Ez. 33:22a "Now the hand of the LORD was upon me."
1462- Ez. 9:6b "Begin at my sanctuary."
1463- Job 33:12b "God is greater than man."
1464-  Ps. 105:43 "And he brought forth his people with joy, and his
           chosen with gladness."
1465-  Ps. 123:3a "Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us."

#85  Hymn- A Mighty Fortress Is Our God  LISTEN

The information about this song,  is taken from the book by Robert J. Morgan, THEN SINGS MY SOUL   (pg. 15)

"When the Protestant Reformation began, Martin Luther determined to restore worship to the German Church. He worked with skilled musicians to create new music for Christians, to be sung in the vernacular. He helped revive congregational singing and wrote a number of hymns.
Luther's most famous hymn is "A Mighty Fortress Is  Our God." Based on Psalm 46, it reflects Luther's awareness of our intense struggle with Satan. In difficulty and danger, Luther would often resort to this song, saying to his associate, "Come, Philipp, let us sing the 46th Psalm."

 Some instructive words-

"When we criticize ourselves, we devalue His masterpiece. We were made in His image, fearfully and wonderfully crafted with a purpose only we can fulfill. God doesn’t make mistakes. If He sees us as “very good,” why do we struggle to see ourselves that way? Instead of dwelling on our perceived shortcomings, let’s fix our eyes on the One who formed us and find our worth in His unchanging love." Rachael Adams

"The Bible shows us that we were not created to walk alone. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us that when one falls, their companion can lift them. This principle also applies to our spiritual journey: we need others to encourage us, correct us, and walk with us in the fight against sin."Mario Vega

Church Notes:

Jesus is the Man of incredible authority! Demons are afraid of Him, and they torment us everytime they can. We're to stand up to them, knowing that Christ has given us authority over them!
The degrees of harassment are these:

1). Demonic harassment which is, they try to take control of our thoughts.
2). They're deceptive and hard to deal with.
3). They oppress women especially
4). They attempt to take control by possession.

As we learn to lean into Jesus, a transformation takes place. When we seek healing and deliverence, we'll become the new creations He desires us to be. He is our Over-All Authority!

AMAZING GRACE

 Amazing Grace

Mary Southerland-  "As a child, I can still see my Sunday School teacher, Mrs. Cash, as she wrote the word “grace” on the classroom chalkboard. “What does the word “grace” mean to you?” she quietly asked. Even though the word was somewhat familiar, I had no clue what “grace” actually meant. Mrs. Cash simply smiled at my best friend, Katrina, who raised her hand to explain that “grace” was a girl’s name. Evidently, that was not the correct answer.

The pastor of that small, country church I attended often used "grace" in his sermons and many of the songs we sang at church contained "grace" in their lyrics. I had heard it and sung about it, but when it came right down to it, grace was ambiguous to me at best.

I am afraid that is the case with many of us today. If we are not personally experiencing, walking in and serving through the grace of God, our efforts

and works are futile and empty.

Mrs. Cash simply turned once again to the chalkboard and wrote this acrostic that is now inscribed in my bible and my heart:

G        God’s

R        Riches

A        At

C        Christ’s

E        Expense

All that God is — all that God has — is available to us every minute of every day. With every breath we take and every beat of our heart, His riches are ours because of what Jesus Christ did on the cross. Those infinite riches are credited to our life account, deposited there by Jesus Christ.

The supply of grace is eternal, beginning the moment we surrender to God.

God is our provider. The word “provider” comes from two Latin words,

“pro” which means “before” and “video” which means “to see”. In other

words, God will see to every need beforehand. The Good Shepherd meets

every need of every sheep, every day in every way. That’s grace.

John 10:4 "After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them,

and they follow him because they recognize his voice." (NLT)

The Shepherd is always ahead of his sheep, out in front, which means that

any attack upon the sheep has to consider him first. What peace and security

we can have knowing that God has gone before us through every valley,

across each raging river of life making the crooked paths straight, hammer-

ing down every mountain before us. He knows what tomorrow holds and will

give us everything we need to face it. When we begin to understand and walk

in the truth that God monitors every circumstance, we will also begin to understand and walk in grace. In fact, we need to filter life through God’s grace.

When I (Mary) graduated from college, I worked as a summer intern for a

music and youth pastor in Grand Prairie, Texas. That summer changed the direction of my life as I experienced in a new way, the power of God working

in and through me. One Sunday morning, the pastor called me into his office

to let me know that the music and youth director with whom I worked was

being fired immediately.

I was devastated. Not only had this man and his family become precious friends, but his leaving meant that I was without a job and a church I had grown to love. In the shaky days ahead, I experienced the reality that God’s grace really does cover it all. Within weeks, God moved me to a church in Dallas where I met an extraordinary young man named Dan Southerland. Not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for the grace-filled trial that brought Dan and me together.

God’s “mercy” and “loving kindness” provide all kinds of experiences. Some we call good. Some we call bad. But each one comes through a checkpoint of grace before it touches our lives, transforming us into trophies of grace. Mercy

is when God gives us what we don’t deserve. Justice is when we get what we deserve, but grace is when we get what we don’t deserve.

You may find yourself in a frightening place filled with darkness and doubt. Your fragile heart may be wondering if God even knows or cares where you are or what you need. Let me assure you - He does. Don’t think for a minute just that because you cannot see the hand of God or sense His presence, it means that He is not working. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The grace of God is always at work in our lives. You can count on it!

 Let's Pray-

Father, thank You for Your grace that covers me. I cannot comprehend exactly what grace is, but I choose to accept it as Your precious gift to me. I may not always be able to hear Your voice or understand what You are doing in my life, but I praise You! Help me learn how to embrace my pain and use it for power in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

#78 Testimony- Kathryn Kuhlman

The amazing ministry of Kathryn Kuhlman has proved the fact that the Holy Spirit intercedes, prays, pleads and goes to meet us in our desperate need.
One of the leaders of the Catholic healing ministry, Father Francis McNutt, has explained that thousands of Catholics went to her meetings seeking healing and remission, and thousands of them found health.
Miss Kuhlman's large healing services were in no sense a shrine. She happened to be a woman prophetess. She did not claim to be an evangelist or a preacher. She was certainly no healer—we leave that word to the metaphysicians—but she established a ministry where Jesus was honored through the omnipresent Holy Spirit, and people from all denominations came hoping or believing they would receive healing. Doctors were present to confirm those healing.
The services were conducted in such a way as to cause people to expect the Holy Spirit to work. These healings were the sovereign work of God.

1416-1420 One-line Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more verses this week- or to review them from when they were first posted-

1416- Ps. 125:1 "They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion,
which cannot be removed, but abideth forever."
1417- Ez. 20:9b "I made myself known unto them."
1418- Is. 56:5b "I will give them an everlasting name."
1419- Is. 51:16a, c "And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have
covered thee in the shadow of mine hand . . . Thou art my people."
1420- Is. 51:8b "My righteousness shall be forever and my salvation
          from generation to generatiion."

#78 Hymn- There Is a Balm in Gilead
The information about this song,  is taken from the book by Robert J. Morgan, THEN SINGS MY SOUL      (p. 85)

The first Africans on American shores arrived in chains. Their hellish voyage aboard slave ships was only the beginning of their sorrows. The breakup of their families, the oppression of bondage, the whips and shackles, their loss of dignity . . . it all combined to kill both body and spirit.
But the souls of the slaves found release through singing. And a unique form of music evolved called the "Negro Spiritual" . . . With swaying bodies, they would stand, eyes half-closed singing ones like, "There Is a Balm in Gilead" based on Jeremiah 8:22.

Church Notes:

We're to have a zeal for the work that we do, whatever it is. We're to ask, "Where do I fit in? What am I equiped to do to serve the church?
Be emotionally charged with the passion of God, removing any sin or darkness from your life. Develop a hunger for God! Serve where you are, doing it for His glory, fighting against worldly pleasures.
Do not lack in zeal, but be fervent in Spirit to serve the Lord. Be diligent, consistent and intentional to advance Christ's Kingdom. Lean into Jesus!

 Some encouraging words-

Only God knows all the factors in your situation. Only He can coordinate all aspects at the most opportune time. Your part is to obey and leave the future in His Hands. Let Him be God. He will not procrastinate; God's time is always best. From God's perspective, your waiting in extended prayer, is an investment. He may be developing stronger faith through your perseverance!

God Is Near

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18 NIV).

Jessica Van Roekel- "Broken hearts are one of the heavier burdens we carry. Unanswered prayers, unfulfilled longings, and unmet expectations can lead our hearts to brokenness. Elijah, an Old Testament prophet, knew brokenheartedness too. His people, the Israelites, continually turned away from God and they rejected his message to return. How his heart must of broke for them.

God revealed himself to his people over and over again and for a time, they served him, but then fell back into idol worship. This led to the famous encounter on Mount Carmel between the prophets of Baal and the lone prophet of God. Fire fell from heaven and consumed the drenched altar, the wood, the stones, and licked up the water that remained in the trench.

The people rose up and proclaimed, “The Lord is God,” and killed the prophets of Baal. Once Jezebel heard this news, she vowed to kill Elijah. And Elijah ran away. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it, and prayed that he might die. He had had enough.

Elijah struggled with broken heartedness. And if he can struggle with it, then it shouldn’t surprise us when we struggle with it too. Living for the Lord and seeking to be obedient to him carries with it its own set of difficulties. We wrestle against our old nature that rises to demand its own way, whether it’s through wanting recognition for a job well done or revenge against those who stand against us. We grow weary and declare that we’re done. We have had enough.

There are times when God doesn’t feel near. He feels far off and we wonder where he went. This happened to Elijah too. Imagine standing alone against an entire group of Baal prophets and a people who toggled between serving the Lord and serving idols. Visibly you are outnumbered except you have God—the Everlasting God who has no beginning and no end—on your side.

To the human eye, victory looks impossible, but God fights for you and makes victory possible. Elijah didn’t do anything except obey the Lord. And God won the victory. But then Elijah got scared and ran away.

But in the wilderness, God came near. Under that broom tree, God provided sustenance and rest for Elijah’s refreshment. When we’re under duress of heart, we need to take time to satisfy our needs for refreshment too. Our broken hearts can cause us to throw up our hands in defeat and run away, and when we do, Jesus meets us in that moment, ready to remind us that victory is found in him and that he gives us the courage to stand and face the giants once again.

Jesus is our bread and living water and his yoke is easy. When we turn toward him instead of away, we find that he satisfies the weariness in our heart. When we state that we have had enough, Jesus becomes enough for us. We can taste and see that the Lord is good, and he is everything we need.

Elijah left his broom tree of despair and traveled deeper into the wilderness to Mount Horeb, the mountain of God. Again, God met him there and asked him, “What are you doing here?” It is here that Elijah finally gives words to his broken heart. He says, “I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword.

I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me” (1 Kings 18:10 NIV). And the Lord drew near. The wind came and shattered rocks, but the Lord was not in the wind. Then the earth shook and fire fell, but the Lord was not in either. Instead, the Lord arrived in a gentle whisper.

It is in gentleness that the Lord draws near. A broken heart doesn’t need more devastation like windstorms, earthquakes, or fire. It needs tenderness, and that’s what the Lord brings to us when our hearts are broken. He is gentle with our heart. He draws near. Will we come out of our caves of brokenness long enough to see his gentle ways with our hearts?

Intersecting Faith and Life:

You may be feeling crushed by the weight of a broken heart. You might even say like Elijah, “I have had enough.” But let me encourage you to be still and let God draw near. He longs to refresh you physically with rest and sustenance. Jesus longs to be your bread and living water. Run to him. Pour out your broken heart to him. Ugly cry if you need to. He’s near, waiting to receive you with open arms. Take time today to walk into them.

Let's pray-

"Lord, thank You for entrusting me with gifts and talents. Sometimes I’m not sure what they are, but I pray You will make them clear to me. Help me to be brave and share with others the talents You have given me. I want to invest in other people and multiply the fruit in Your kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, Amen."  Sharon Jaynes

801-805 one-line Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more verses this week- or to review them from when they were first posted-

801- Ps. 147:5 "Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understand is infinite."

802- Gal. 5:14 "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; thou shalt love thy               neighbour as thyself."

803- Ps. 119:104 "Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every
        false way."

804- Eph. 4:2 "With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one                   another in love."

805- Phil. 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain."

Quote for today-

~ Charles Spurgeon- "The true spiritual order of prayer seems to me to consist of something more than mere arrangement. It is most fitting for us first to feel that we are now doing something that is real. We are about to address ourselves to God, whom we cannot see but who is really present.
We can neither touch nor hear nor by our senses comprehend Him, but, nevertheless, He is as truly with us as though we were speaking to a friend of flesh and blood like ourselves. Feeling the reality of God's presence, our minds will be led by divine grace into a humble state. We will feel like Abraham when he said, 'I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes' (Gen. 18:27).
Consequently, we will not deliver ourselves of our prayers as boys repeating their lessons, as a mere matter of rote. Much less will we speak as if we were rabbis instructing our pupils or, as I have heard some do, with the courseness of a robber stopping a person on the road and demanding his money. No, we will be humble yet bold petitioners, humbly asking mercy through the savior's blood." (Spurgeon on PRAYER & SPIRITUAL WARFARE)

Words of wisdom-  based on some notes.

Satan always perverts the order of God's Word. To Eve, he said, 'Did God actually say..'  As we see in Genesis chapter 3, sin messed everything up! We have worldly resolutions for sin by trying various ways to fix ourselves. But as sin tends to ruin the call of God, and rob us of serving His purposes, we need His saving grace.
Sin has a supernatural origin. What is offered to us then, by God, is the sacrifice and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary! God made a way back to Him, when there was none. He provides eternal redemption through His Son for all mankind who believe and receive what He did some 2,000 years ago.
While we were still sinners, Christ was willing to die for us. This is God's purpose and plan for humanity, but our sin drives us away from Him. God makes a way back to Him through Christ, and helps us in our difficult situations now, often making a way where there seems to be no way!

Suggestions For Your Prayer Role

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: Regardless of your leadership role—pastor, teacher, Sunday School leader, lay leader, youth leader, missionary—adapt this to your situation.

Plan your intercession for your people.

You will be sure to fail God and your people unless you have a regular prayer plan for your intercession times. If anything in life is worth planning, surely this is. (Google image, Man with uplifted hand).

#49 You Can Give the Command of Faith

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel-  You need not be a supersaint to give the command of faith. Even new Christians may be empowered to perform miracles in the name of Jesus.

I have known of new believers in India who had never seen a demonstration of Jesus' power suddenly capable of casting out demons. In a cottage prayer meeting held by one of our new church groups, when no pastor or missionary was able to be present, a Hindu neighbor heard them singing and came to the door. #9 The Secret Place

Samuel Chadwick- Those who come to learn are disciples. They put themselves under the yoke of him from whom they seek to learn, and the first condition of learning is a teachable spirit.

Our Lord has the authority to teach, and He Himself is Example as well as Instructor. There is no appeal beyond Him. Having besought Him to teach us how to pray, we surrender mind and heart to His teaching and yield all to the discipline of loyal and believing obedience. (Google image, Lord, teach us to pray )

#77 Maintain a Special Prayer Burden for the Youth

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: The Youth. Maintain a special prayer burden for the youth and your ministry to them even though you may have a youth pastor.

Pray for (1) an adequately planned ministry to them; (2) the salvation of each; (3) an expanding ministry to youth outside the church; (4) God's call to Christian service for youth of His choosing; (5) training or employment for needy youth; (6) strength to withstand the special temptations of youth.
