How do You Pray for an Election?

Dave Butts gives us some prayer points in his article in the Herald of His Coming news paper, "How Do You Pray For An Election?",p.7, Feb. 2016:

{Note from Jean: Start each paragraph with the words, "I", to make it real and personal. I just did, so I sensed it became my own personal prayer, not just something to read...I also printed out the prayers to have them handy}

  •  "Ask the Lord to pour out a spirit of repentance on our  nation that we might become a nation committed to  following His ways. Pray that the U.S. will repent of its corporate rejection of the Word of God as the basis of Law. Pray that a holy fear of God will sweep across our nation, leading us back to a place of wisdom.
  • Pray for truth to become valued again in American society. Pray for our judicial system and lawmakers, that justice for all, tempered by mercy and compassion, will guide our nation. Pray for the judges of this nation, that they would seek the wisdom that comes from above. Ask the Lord to thwart the efforts of those who would     remove religious freedom from our nation.
  • Pray for safe and fair elections with good participation. Pray for protection from any attacks from enemies that would prevent or delay the election.
  • Pray for the salvation of those who are in leadership of our nation. Ask the Lord to remove all envy and selfish ambition. Ask the Lord to surround them with godly advisors.
  • Pray that candidates will take brave stands for righteousness, even when it may not be well received. Pray for physical protection for all candidates and their families throughout this campaign season.
  • Ask the Lord to help strengthen the trumpet call to intensive prayer, so that it is heard throughout the church in the United States. Ask the Lord for the church  to rise up with a strong prophetic voice for America. Pray that the church in America will live in such a way that the peace of Christ comes into the councils of our nation.
  • Pray that courage born of wisdom will be given to Christians in places of leadership in government, the courts, and law schools across the nation so that they will stand for a godly basis for law.
  • Pray for truth and fairness to be established standards in our news media.
  • Ask for great awareness and discernment for the Lord's praying people as they pray over the election. Beseech the Lord for a strong hedge of protection around the nation itself during this time of decision.

           Personal impact

In a country with 350 million people, it is very easy to feel as though you could not possibly make a difference. That thinking is wrong on many levels, but it is particularly false when we consider the power of prayer.

As you pray, even as a single, solitary person, you are teaming up with the Creator of the universe to change situations. The only way that positive change is not possible is when Christians refuse to pray!"

Dave Butts, founder and president of Harvest Prayer Ministries, is chairman of America's National Prayer Committee. This prayer guide is adapted from his new book, Praying For America, which releases in the Spring of 2016.

Today’s quote: "So much seems up for grabs in this turbulent year and these troubled times. One thing isn't. The Main Thing. "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord is on His heavenly throne" (Psalm 11:3-4). If my hopes are anywhere else, I'll miss the peace of living in that unshakeable security.

My Father in heaven is still in charge. He is sovereign over the affairs of men, and "it is God alone who judges; He decides who will rise and who will fall" (Psalm 75:7). So before I watch the news - and after - I think I'll keep saying those three game-changing words out loud. "Jesus is Lord."
(From Dave Butts' article: Five Pitfalls in a Passionate Election in the newspaper, Herald of His Coming on 2/2016)

Father, when we pray, help us remember, that even as single persons, we're teaming up with the Creator of the universe, and we're to expect positive changes.
As we pray over the election, we ask for a strong hedge of protection around our nation itself during this time of decision.
Please surround the candidates with godly advisors. We ask for great awareness and discernment for the Lord's praying people as they pray over the election.
We pray for Your divine will to be done in our nation. Let Jesus be glorified, as Your people turn out in great numbers this year to vote for leadership that honors and upholds our constitution and the right to life.
In Jesus' Name I pray, Amen!

Today’s Bible verses: 2 Cor. 2:14 "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place."

'But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him." 2 Cor. 2:14  NIV

Our thought today: When you're not feeling successful in your Christian walk, check out John 14. Ask for Christ's promise to come to you. If you think you're the only one experiencing this, think again, as we all have been there, done that.

Our question today: What can I do to have God manifest Himself in my life?

Answer: Read God's Word. It will come alive! The words can speak to you in your situation. Seek Him in times of quietness. Have a sincere desire to know Him. Allow His Holy Spirit to fill your very being, as you repent of sins, and ask for forgiveness. Give your life to Jesus, and you'll begin to really live!
