Why Pray?

A most perplexing question
Came to light the other day
If God is in control
Then why do men have need to pray

If God knows all the questions
That a soul will likely ask
Then why not give the answers
Saving all that daily task

That task of spending time in prayer
The way so many do
Petitioning the Lord to give
The things they want Him to

Not really thinking that He'll hear
Or answer their request
Believing that the exercise
Is futile at its best

And if He truly hears
Then why do many fail to pray
Believing that He truly will
Deliver them that day

From given circumstances
That have pressed them to the throne
Where they by their confession
Can make all their feelings known

The answer's not that simple
If you're not in love with Him
Who sacrificed His precious Son
To save the souls of men

For those who choose to love themselves
More than their God and King
Will not discern the reason for
His gift of suffering

For as we suffer need
The more we'll understand His plan
And learn how to appreciate
What He has done for man

If we by our confession
Place our soul and trust in God
Who gave us an Example
By the way that Jesus trod

Example by His righteousness
And by His tender care
That started every morning
With His time with God in prayer

A time of loving fellowship
Just with the One He knew
Would share with Him what He had planned
And what He'd have Him do

As He had need of knowing
Not before the time had come
For Him to open blinded eyes
Or heal the deaf and dumb

For prayer as Jesus taught us
Is not simply where we go
With endless repetitions
Making sure that God will know

The things that we have need of
Or at least desire to see
Because we stopped to meet Him
A short time on bended knee

But prayer is where we go to find
The mind and will of God
Who promised us His presence
All along the path we trod

If we will give our hearts to Him
Each day on bended knee
And wait awhile in fellowship
To see what we might see

That God will share the answers
That we need the most to know
And by our invitation
He will show us where to go

And will with every moment
Give us what we need the most
Through the presence and the timing
Of His precious Holy Ghost
(John 14:11-17, 26)

Inject your prayer list with life

Our prayer today-  From Show me by Lisa Buffaloe:

"Now when life hits hard and it’s difficult to stand, pray and ask God . . .
From this situation, from every situation,

Heavenly Father . . .
show me how to get through one more day
help me to see Your loving hand during this difficulty
grant me the ability to remember You are always with me
remind me of Your truth and show me Your truth in Your word
show me how to win against the enemy with Your power

and Your truth
help me discover what You want me to know
show me Your goodness and lovingkindess
show me Your power
show me what I can learn
show me how I can grow
show me how I can develop as a Christian
show me ways I can help others through my own
difficulties
show me, teach me, grow me, develop me, and make
me more like Your precious Son, Jesus Christ.

Thank You, Father that You never leave or forsake us.
Thank You that You are just and righteous and nothing is
too hard or impossible for You. Show me, remind me, help
me to always remember, no matter what happens, I am
always forever safe in Your loving heart."

Today's Bible verses-

“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great
and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jer. 33:33 NKJV).

“You will show me the path of life; in Your presence
is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures
       forevermore” (Psalm 16:11 NKJV).

“Show Your marvelous lovingkindness by Your right hand,
O You who save those who trust in You from those who rise
up against them” (Psalm 17:7 NKJV).

Today's quote-

"On the day when you cry out to Christ, when all your hope has
vanished and your faith is week, when circumstances overwhelm you,
when you've been forsaken and mocked, when your only hope is
that the Lord really does love you . . .

. . . you're in the safest place you'll ever be.

   L
ord I pray hope to those in sorrow and trials . . .
Not in words from men . . .
but the demonstration of your power in their lives. For you Lord
to rejoice with them with joy unspeakable when they see your
hand upon them . . . Lord it's like when you told the father
that
you knew He always heard you but you spoke for the
people's
sake . . . let them hear and see
I pray . . . thank you for hearing me."

"It is not part of the life of a natural man to pray. We hear it said that a man will suffer in his life if he does not pray’; I question it. What will suffer is the life of the Son of God in him, which is nourished not by food, but by prayer."
