GOD'S BUFFET

~ Tom Scott- "My wife will testify that I am in a constant state of hunger. I’m unsure why, but I yearn for that satisfying feeling of a full-enough stomach. It’s that feeling of needing nothing and being complacent. Everything is in its place, and all is well. (photo courtesy of pixabay.com.)

People listened to Jesus as He taught from the mountain because they felt empty, lost, and oppressed. Some of the wealthy and a few government officials were hungry too.

Searching for meaning and identifying God’s role and will in our lives gives us the focus to satisfy our hunger and thirst. Living a life dedicated to the One who created us gives us purpose, motivation, and satisfaction. He created us to glorify Him through our thoughts and actions because this is right. Doing this satisfies us. And we discover all this in the buffet of God’s Word.

When we commit our lives to God and fill up on His Word, we experience a fullness of joy—the satisfaction of being content and the start of living to follow His will for us. Our love for God and His Word grows into sharing with others what brings us joy. We might not explicitly tell someone about our happiness, but our mere countenance and behavior sing loudly.

Today, try the all-you-can-eat buffet of God’s Word. Every Scripture applies to our lives in one way or another. We will become full and know what righteousness is. God will stuff us with His knowledge, which will quench our thirst with living water.

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied." Matthew 5:6 NASB

What are some ways you can eat from God’s buffet?

Let's pray-

Father, many of us are in a constant need of food. Our feeling of not full-enough stomachs spure us on to seek food throughout the day.
People listened to Jesus as He taught them on the mountain because they felt empty, lost and oppressed. Even some of the wealthy and a few government officials were there.
The truth is that they were all searching for meaning and purpose for life. We are the same, in that we're searching to identify with Your role and will for our lives. This gives us focus that will satisfy our hunger and thirst.
Living a life for the One who created us gives purpose, motivation and satisfaction. You created us to glorify You through our thoughts, words and actions because this is what is right in Your sight. We discover all this in the buffet of Your Word!
As we commit our lives to You, fill up on Your Word daily, we experience a fullness of joy and satisfaction of following Your will for us. We find that our love for You grows through study and sharing with others through whatever ways You direct.
We're invited to try the all-you-can-eat buffet of Your Word! Many Scriptures we read will apply to our lives one way or another. We'll become full and know what righteousness is. You stuff us with Your knowledge, which quenches our thirst with living water.
We pray this with thanksgiving, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Give Us Tears in Our Eyes (A prayer composed from Dr. Wesley L. Duewel's poem)

    #27 Testimony-  Bruce

"As a child my family took us swimming at Moonstone Beach in Kingston, RI. While there my family did not see me getting caught in a “rip tide”. I was going quickly along the coast, angling out to sea.

I could not see my family, or anyone on that beach. I was tired and having a hard time staying afloat. A couple appeared walking on the beach. They had a beach ball with them. The man threw that ball out to me so I could have something to hold onto.

After getting the beach ball I looked to see if they were going to help me. That couple had disappeared. I found myself suddenly out of the rip tide and now near the shore."

Hebrews 1:14 NKJV – “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”

A PAUSE FOR PEACE- By Clifford Goldstein

A PAUSE FOR PEACE, by Clifford Goldstein, identifies the
Sabbath  a day of rest — as God's recovery plan for this devastating recession. This is easily one of the most life- impacting books you'll  ever read. True refreshment awaits as you discover the practical joys and spiritual blessings of the nearly forgotten practice of taking one day out as a pause for peace.

[Sunday is the Christian's Sabbath for gathering to fellowship with other believers, receiving the Word through preaching and in  worshipping the Lord Jesus.
Another day to be set aside for physical rest from normal work is invaluable to refresh the body. Father God commanded
(4th commandment) that we should rest a day from our labors, having done it Himself after creating all that we see and don't see.

#27 Hymn- Beneath the Cross of Jesus

~  Elizabeth Cecilia Douglas Clephane was born in Scotland in 1830 and died in 1869. The daughter of a county sheriff, she lived most of her brief life near Edinburgh.

Though in frail health most of her life, Elizabeth found the strength to help the poor and sick in her town. She and her sister gave all that they could spare to charity including, it is said, selling their horse and carriage for the benefit of the needy. townspeople of Melrose referred to Elizabeth as "the Sunbeam."

“Beneath the cross of Jesus,” is  focusing on the shelter of the cross.  This poem and others of hers appeared in the Scottish Presbyterian magazine The Family Treasury, submitted by an anonymous source, perhaps a family member or friend. One source suggests that this hymn was written within one year of her death in 1868. British hymnologist. J.R. Watson mentions that an editorial emendation attached to the poem by the anonymous source submitting the poems said, "These lines express the experiences, the hopes and the longings of a young Christian lately released.”

 Some encouraging words-

~ We see Christ broken as He meekly goes to Calvary in obedience to His Father's plan, to become our scapegoat by bearing our sins in His own body on the Cross of Calvary.
Remember to choose the gift of gratitude and remember how blessed you are!
