#17 The Holy Spirit Places Prayer Burdens Upon You

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- The Holy Spirit places prayer burdens upon you. God's heart is pained by the sin, the indifference, and the godlessness of our age.

Our loving Savior and the tender Holy Spirit plead in interceding prayer for the broken lives, broken homes, and the tragedies of sin and injustice throughout the world. They long for you to join them in daily intercession for the hurting, the broken, the lost, and those being destroyed by sin.

God the Father wants someone to intercede for everyone in need. God hears the cry of the orphan, the sob of the broken-hearted, the angry words of the violent, and the screams of their victims. God feels the woes of the prisoners and the refugees, the hunger pangs of those starving for food.

He is touched by the sorrow of those who mourn, the helplessness and hopelessness of those chained by habits of sin. He understands the spiritual darkness and the vague but deep dissatisfaction of those who have never received the gospel.

Surely Jesus still weeps over our cities as He wept over Jerusalem, for His heart is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb. 13:8). He Loves with deepest longing every atheist, communist, or terrorist. He cherishes every human being, no matter how sinful he is.

It is the special role of the Holy Spirit to give you a prayer burden for all these needs and all these needy ones. God wants to express His longing love through you as you pray. Such loving, longing intercession should be a part of your prayer time each day.

The more faithfully and sincerely you pray for these needs, the more deeply the Holy Spirit will be able to burden you with these things which break the heart of God. The Holy Spirit wants to call you to weep with those who weep (Rom. 12:15). Your weeping is usually not in public, but in your secret place of intercession (Jer. 13:17).

The Holy Spirit will call you to prayer at crisis moments. There are crisis moments in the lives of all people—moments of danger, moments of decision, moments of special opportunity. There are times when the Holy Spirit is convicting someone of sin (John 16:8), and He may call you to pray during that spiritual crisis.

There are times of illness or special discouragement when the Spirit may select you to bear a special payer burden for someone. Learn to be very sensitive to His voice. (For a more detailed discussion of this important role [we will] see chapter 11.

Let's pray-

"Father, with Your help, I endure hardship with others like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. My desire is to please You, and carry out Your orders. You are my Commanding Officer. I affirm that I am strong in the Lord and in Your mighty power. Putting on the full armor of God I stand against all the schemes of the devil. I purpose to remain alert, praying always with all kinds of prayers for all the saints everywhere. I throw aside everything that would hinder and entangle me, in the name of Jesus. Amen."

Prayers that avail much

Today's Bible verses-

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."

Isaiah 43:2-3, (MSG). “When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down. When you’re between a rock and a hard place, it won’t be a dead end—Because I am God, your personal God, The Holy of Israel, your Savior.”

Today's quote-

~ Brother Lawrence- " . . . said that a sharp distinction should be drawn between acts of the intellect and those of the will. The former are of little importance, while the latter mean everything. All we really have to do is to love God and rejoice in Him.
He declared that all the possible good works or self-abasing acts of contrition we could possibly do would not erase a single sin. In fact, God often chooses those who had been the greatest sinners to reveal His greatest grace, because this can reveal His goodness more dramatically.
Only the blood of Jesus Christ can cleanse us of sin. For this reason, we should strive to love Him with all our hearts.

Words of wisdom-

~ Because of  Christ's death on the cross, resurrection to life again, we can now be free from the control of sin in our lives. It longer
can have us in bondage to evil thoughts and ways if we'll look to Him to overcome them. Let's live freely, empowered by the Lord Jesus!
