#18 The Holy Spirit Will Add Special Depth, Power

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- The Holy Spirit will add special depth, power, and faith to your prayer. He will not only direct you to pray for special needs, but He will also guide you in how to pray for special needs, but He will also guide you in how to pray for them, will strengthen your faith as you pray, and will anoint and empower your praying.

In addition, as your Payer partner, He will join you in praying and interceding at a depth not possible to you alone (Rom. 8:26-27). (Google image, Pray for our world today)

We are weak in ourselves and our prayers are weak as compared to His. He sees the urgency far better than we do. His infinite personality feels an infinite depth of love, sorrow, compassion, and yearning. He sees the tremendous potential and possibilities beyond anything we could ever understand.

The Spirit's prayer, says Paul, transcends any possible prayer on your part. This is not so much His intercession through you, but above and beyond that it is His intercession for you (v. 27).

He intercedes for you and for those for whom you intercede. He has led you to share his heartcry, His burden, His love. But He does not leave you to pray alone. He joins you as your loving Prayer Partner, adding infinite understanding, desire, and power.

The Holy Spirit wants you to have a worldwide prayer ministry. The Holy Spirit, your indwelling Prayer Partner, longs for you to share His heartbeat for the whole world. Since He is the Creator God, He loves all His creation equally.

About half of the people of the world have never heard the name of Jesus; or if they have heard it mentioned, they have not heard enough about Him to enable them to make an intelligent decision to receive Christ.

These peoples live in a kind of poverty not often recognized or publicized. It is a poverty of intercessory prayer, for the intercessors in these heathen nations are few.

Who will pray for them? Who will pray for the outcast, the atheist, the communist, the terrorist—if not the Christians in our nation? The Holy Spirit, who prays for them with deep hunger each day, longs for you to share His intercession for the rapid advance of the gospel.

How tragic if our reluctance to pray and our failure to reach these lost ones are factors contributing to the delay of Christ's return (Matt. 24:14).

God forgive us! Why not stop right now and ask forgiveness, promising that through the Spirit's enabling power, you will begin to assume your full role as His prayer partner. Undoubtedly there are whole cities, nations, and world leaders waiting for your prayer. How long must they wait?

The Holy Spirit may call you to fast. We as a church have largely neglected the method of fasting as a means to more powerful praying and greater prayer results. From time to time the Holy Spirit will call you to add fasting to your prayer. (A more lengthy discussion of fasting is found in chapter 13.)

The Holy Spirit wants to multiply your eternal reward. Christ will greatly reward all His intercessors for their faithfulness. Far more depends on the faithful exercise of prayer than most Christians realize.

Significant prayer battles are being fought again and again. You are in danger of missing the greatest opportunities of your Christian Life. Christ and the Holy Spirit long for you to be their effective prayer partner. They need your intercessory help.

God the Father has ordained that much depends on your prayer. Don't fail your divine Prayer Partners. Don't fail your world. The Holy Spirit longs for your prayer life to become powerful and effective. He wants you to receive your full and glorious reward. Don't miss the intercessor's crown He has waiting for you!

Let's pray-

"Heavenly Father, I bind my mind to the mind of Christ, my will to the will of God and my emotions to the control of the Holy Spirit. I choose to walk according to the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus, setting my mind on the things of the Spirit. To be spiritually minded is life and peace. I count myself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Amen."

Today's Bible verses:

In the Gospel of Matthew, (12:33-37 NIV). Jesus said:

"Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit…For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will condemned."

Philippians 4:8 “Think about the things that are good and worthy of praise. Think about the things that are true and honorable and right and pure and beautiful and respected” (NCV).

Today's quote-

~ Mary Southerland- "We choose what we watch and read, the conversations we have and the time we spend in the Word. If the mind is not filled with good, trust me, the enemy will fill it with bad. The human mind will always set itself on something. In this passage, Paul [see Phil. 4:8 above] is challenging us to wisely choose that setting, taking charge of our thoughts by inviting the Holy Spirit to empower God’s standard for the mind.
It is time for us to allow the Holy Spirit free reign in training our mind, harnessing our thoughts and measuring them by God’s standard. If we don’t make up our mind, our unmade mind will unmake us. In order to live right we must think right. How about you? Have you made up your mind?"

Words of wisdom-

We're not designed to be independent from God, but to be dependent on Him and to worship Him.
