#33 God Needs Permanent Intercessor-watchmen

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- God may progressively deepen some prayer burden until it becomes your permanent assignment. God needs permanent intercessor-watchmen for churches, missions, cities, nations, and ministries.

"I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth? (Is. 62:6-7). (Google image, Man praying to God)

God announces that He has posted prayer watchmen. Undoubtedly, Isaiah himself was one of these, for he says in verse one, "For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her  righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch." You can be one of God's prayer watchmen.

Every full-time Christian worker needs a prayer team standing with him, strengthening him, and covering him with intercession. Every Christian ministry needs a burden-bearing team of prayer warriors.

The effectiveness of any such ministry will depend upon the godliness of the team and the power of prayer that is marshaled behind it.

God will bless any person or ministry as prayer support is deliberately enlisted and the prayer partners kept carefully informed and guided in prayer. Blessed is that person or ministry that has not only enlisted the aid of prayer helpers, but has intercessor-watchmen who carry a continual burden for the ministry.

This was the secret of the ministry of Charles G. Finney, whose ministry resulted in hundreds of thousands turning to the Lord and whose meetings in 1858-59 were called a direct cause of one of the world's greatest revivals.

Finney was himself a mighty man of prayer and had men praying for his ministry. In his twenty-two famous lectures, "Revivals of Religion," four of them are on the role of prayer.

As Finney traveled from place to place, he was accompanied by two elderly men known as Father Clery and Father Nash. When he went o Britain for several weeks of special meetings, these two men of ordinary means went also, rented a dark, damp basement room for twenty-five cents and stayed there on their knees, prevailing in prayer. Their tears and groans in prayer prevailed. They were Finney's intercessor-watchmen.

When Evan Roberts was so mightily used of God in the great Welsh revival of 1904-1905, he had behind him a small group of young people who served as his intercessor-watchmen. One of my treasures is a post card from Evan to one of the young people on this burden-bearing team.

Let's pray-

"Father, you give power to the weak, and to those who have no might, You increase our strength. Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. Thank You for giving me a spirit of power, of love and of a sound mind. You gave me the power to trample…over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt me in the name of Jesus. Amen."

Scripture Reading
Isaiah 40:29 1 John 4:4 Luke 10:19

Today's Bible verses-

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit."

     Matt.16:24 (ESV)
“Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’”

     Luke 18:7 (NCV).
“God will always give what is right to his people who cry to him night and day, and he will not be slow to answer them.”

Today's quote-

~ Xochitl Dixon- "Our adoring Father created us and sustains the universe. He delights in us just because we're his beloved children. He designed us, knows us, and invites us into a personal relationship with Him. What an honor! Our loving and living God is our reason for everlasting joy. we can rejoice in the gift of His constant presence and be grateful for every day our Maker has given us." (Our Daily Bread June 9, 2020)

~ Oswald Chambers- "Faith is not some weak and pitiful emotion, but is strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that God is holy love. And even though you cannot see Him right now and cannot understand what He is doing, you know Him. Disaster occurs in your life when you lack the mental composure that comes from establishing yourself on the eternal truth that God is holy love. Faith is the supreme effort of your life—throwing yourself with abandon and total confidence upon God." From My Utmost for His Highest Updated Edition

Words of wisdom-

We have a Perfect Savior, One who made the way to the Holy God, His Father. Although we have sinned all our lives, not being perfect as He was, we now have access to God because of the sacrifice of Christ's blood, poured out on Calvary.
