#112 Prayer for the Building of Christ's Church

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- Jesus said, "I will build my church" (Matt. 16:18). It may not always be God's time to establish a local congregation in a particular town or section of a town, but it is always God's desire to build His church.

Sample "always" aspects include the planting of new congregations of believers, the growth of existing congregations, God's blessing on ministry to special groups (children, youth, families, the unchurched, the poor, and so on), the unity of the church, increased vision and zeal to witness and win souls, sacrificial giving and tithing, discipling of believers, increase spirit of prayer, and establishing in sound doctrine.  (Google image)
Prayer for revival in the church.  "Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?" (Ps. 85:6). "For this is what the high and holy one says—he who lives forever, whose name is holy:

'I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the heart of the contrite' " (Isa. 57:15).

"For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch" (Isa. 62:1).

"You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth" (Isa. 62:6-7).

Sample "always" aspects include a new awareness of God and reverence for God, a hunger among God's people to see God work in power, new rightness (life, anointing, blessing and power) in congregational services, new evidence of repentance (of humbling of self before God, asking forgiveness, and making restitution), and revival (local, regional, or national).

Prayer for laborers in God's harvest. "Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field" (Matt. 9:38). Sample "always" aspects include God's clear call to young people and others, the training of Christian workers called by God, and God's guidance to His workers concerning the place of ministry.

Prayer for harvest. " I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest" (John 4:35). Sample "always" aspects include Bible distribution, literature evangelism, radio and TV evangelism, evangelism of specific groups (youth, students, prisoners, military people, religious groups such as Jews, Muslims, and Hindus. evangelism teams, evangelism by lay believers, follow-up evangelism, sinners being convicted of their sins, and new people being able to fully understand the gospel.

Prayer for the salvation of an individual.  You are always in God's will when you pray for the salvation of any unsaved person. Jesus gave Himself a ransom for all (1 Tim. 2:5-6) Anyone who thirsts may come (John 7:37). Anyone who will may come (Rev. 22:17).

Sample "always" aspects include the Holy Spirit's conviction of sin, the Spirit's enlightenment so the person understands the gospel, God's revelation of His love, His release of people from Satan's bonds, God's gift of yielding grace, and His bestowment of the assurance of salvation.

Prayer for God's blessing on a nation. "Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance (Ps. 2:8). Ask God to give you some special nation as your prayer assignment. How well I remember my mother's weeping every time she mentioned China in her daily prayers. I believe the recent harvest in China is in part an answer to her prayer and similar prayer burdens by a host of others.

Sample "always" aspects include blessing on the nation, blessing on the leaders of the nation (wisdom and integrity for them), adequate food and housing for the people, God's anointing and fruitfulness for gospel workers, strengthening of and blessing on the church, advance of the gospel, and greater freedom for the gospel.

Prayer for the restraint and defeat of Satan. "Resist him" (1 Peter 5:9). "Our struggle is  . . . against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms . . . . Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests" (Eph. 6:12, 18).

We should pray always for Satan's plans to be defeated, Satan to be rebuked, Satan's darkness to be lifted, Satan's chains of sin and evil habits to be broken, doors closed by Satan to be opened, demonic spirits to be driven away, Satan's slaves to be set free.

Let's pray-

Father, we acknowledge Christ's desire to bless efforts to establish a local congregation, to bless local congregations with their special groups, and to reach out to strengthen established groups for evangelizing and to equip them to win the lost.

We ask for a new awareness and reverence for You, with a hunger among us to see You work in power in our congregations. May there be evidence of repentance and true  humbling before You, and asking for forgiveness and the making of restitution where needed.

We pray for distribution of evangelistic materials that tell of Salvation and of the provision of Christ's ransom for all. Strengthen our lay believers to help with the follow-up evangelism. May Your Spirit be free to convict sinners of their sins, to experience salvation and to guide them to fully understand the gospel.

Inspire us to come against Satan in his various plans to defeat believers in their efforts and plans to spread the Good News. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen

Today's Bible verses-

2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV) "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

Romans 8:35-39 (NIV) “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? …No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Quotes for today-

Dane Ortlund- The same Christ who wept at the tomb of Lazarus weeps with us in our lonely despair. The same one who reached out and touched lepers puts his arm around us today when we feel misunderstood and sidelined. The Jesus who reached out and cleansed messy sinners reaches into our souls and answers our half-hearted plea for mercy with the mighty invincible cleansing of one who cannot bear to do otherwise. [p. 32, of GENTLE and LOWLY].

~ Max Lucado- “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.” ~ C. S. Lewis

“Forgiveness is not saying the one who hurt you was right. Forgiveness is stating that God is fair and He will do what is right.”

Words of wisdom-

~ Do you consider what you do as important? Do you see it as a service unto God, as well as to others? What do you think God thinks of what you do? How about just being thankful for the life you've been given, and be grateful to be able to do what you can to help improve life around you?

Today's guest post-

Keep Pounding the Rock

 Andy Hollifield

“You'll never move that rock, Mikey. It's too big.”

"Mikey had grown accustomed to hearing the disparaging remark from his friends. Since moving to their home when he was only three, Mikey hated that rock and wanted his dad to move it to make room for a swing set. His dad told him if he could move it, he would buy him one.

From the age of six until he was eighteen, Mikey tried to move the rock, breaking several sledgehammers in the process . . ."
