THE FRAGRANCE THAT LINGERS

the fragrance that lingers

Mary Tisinger- "I jabbed my wrist into my husband’s face. “Smell! This is what I want for Christmas!” The fragrance that lingers.

Two weeks before Christmas, we window-shopped in a huge mall. Earlier, I had stopped at a cosmetics display in the middle of the mall while my husband walked ahead. A delightful fragrance drifted around the counter, and I had to see what it was. After using the tester bottle to spray a tiny bit of the perfume on my wrist, I walked away.

But the fragrance stayed with me—and it smelled so good. Each time I sniffed my wrist, the fragrance smelled even better. I loved it. An hour or so later, I could still catch that scent. I hurried back to the counter to learn the name and cost.

That fragrance became my sole perfume then, and still is, many years later. People—even strangers—say to me, “Umm, what perfume are you wearing? You smell so good.”

Having Christ in our lives is like having a delightful fragrance sprayed on our wrists. Like the fragrance that lingers and becomes noticeable to others, Christ’s presence is the same in our lives. As we grow in our knowledge and service to Him, we become more like Him. We take on His attributes: goodness, kindness, mercy, love, and compassion. It’s like having a sweet aroma surrounding us. Others notice, see Christ in us, and are drawn to Him.

Let Christ bring that special fragrance that only He can give into your life. Others will notice and might even say, “Umm, what is that you’re wearing? You smell so good.”

"But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."  2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NIV

Let's pray-

Father, our desire is for You to make our lives a delightful fragrance that lingers and becomes noticeable to others. We want Christ's presence to grow in our knowledge and our service to Him, becoming more like Him.
Enable us to take on Your attributes of goodness, kindness, mercy, love and compassion. May we allow You to bring Your special fragrance into our lives, so others will notice and be drawn to You.
We ask this in Jesus' name for His glory. Amen.

#49- Our goal should be to sincerely talk with God. When we pray in Jesus' name, we're asking for things that are in keeping with the perfection of God's
character, as we see
it demonstrated in the Person of Christ. We should want and ask for more power to pray better!

#49 Hymn- Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed

The information about this song, is taken from the book by Robert J. MorganTHEN SINGS MY SOUL  (pg. 33)

This hymn played a major role in the conversion of a great American hymnist. In1851, Fanny Crosby, 31, attended a revival service at John Street Methodist Church in New York. "After a prayer was offered," she recalled, "they began to sing the grand old conscration hymn, 'Alas! and Did My Savior Bleed' and when they reached the third line of the fifth stanza, 'Here, Lord, I give myself away,' my very soul was flooded with celestial light."

 Some encouraging words-

God’s Word will bring comfort, reminding us this world is not our permanent home. We are created for forever. God has planted eternity in our hearts and given us the promise of heaven. God loved us in our sins and made a way for us to be with Him forever. Jesus is that way. His sacrifice raises us to new life in Him on earth and with Him in eternity. With God, a promise made is a promise kept!
