WHAT IS A PASTOR?

“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to have a walk worthy of the calling with which  you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace….And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ..”  (Eph. 4 1-3, 11, 12 NKJV)

The following are notes Jean took of evangelist, Steve Buza

Definitions of the five-fold ministry:

Evangelist= One who throws out the net, so to speak, for lost souls

Teacher    = The one who stewards – instructs the saved souls

Prophet    = The navigator, the one who sets the course through prophecy, true to God’s Word

Pastor      = The shepherd of the flock

Apostle    = Has a control-tower concept of the work, overseas the ministries

The Pastor is given by the Lord to be in charge of the church body. Each person
within the body is to be faithful to do their part to enable the ministry to run
            smoothly.

What is the biblical definition of a pastor? (man or woman)

1.     He is the shepherd of the sheep. He leads the flock into green pastures by being the example to them.
2.     He teaches the Word so his flock can grow spiritually. He leads in faith and in revelations.
3.     He prays for his sheep, even for those who hurt him and his family with hurtful words.
4.     He prays for the lost in his community.
5.     Visits the sick
6.     Counsels the sheep
7.     Builds bonds with other pastors to establish unity
8.     Goes to conferences to increase his knowledge
9.     He has words of knowledge for his sheep
10.  He changes diapers of his flock.

So what is the responsibility of the sheep?

1.     Show honor and respect, even if we disagree with him at times
2.     Help with projects without being asked
3.     Not to “have the Pastor for lunch.” Do not come against the Pastor!
4.     Pay tithes and offerings. You’ll be blessed, as will the church.
5.     Invite the unsaved to church. Earn the right by sharing your testimony.
6.     Attend services regularly. We need each other!
7.     Don’t manipulate your agenda
8.     Promote church unity in group and community.

He keeps the order of preference in his life: God 1st, wife/husband 2nd, children 3rd, and church 4th.

“And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”  (Jer. 3:15 NKJV)

Let's support our pastors with prayer and love, knowing that they are God's spokespersons of His living Word.
