Devotion to Christ is the Springboard for Everything: Prayer Note # 60

Dutch Sheets, in his book Intercessory Prayer, tells us, "Those who wait upon the Lord inherit and possess—worship and warfare!"

"It is interesting, even paradoxical, but true, that warfare is often born from worship. Out of our waiting often comes warring.

It is the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ that must be the springboard for everything we do.

"But I am afraid, lest as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds should be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ" Cor. 11:3.

Ps. 37:7,9,34 demonstrates how waiting upon the Lord can relate to warfare:

"Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who carries out wicked schemes.... for evildoers will be cut off, but those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land....Wait for the Lord, and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it."

Waiting upon the Lord brings with it the ability to possess our inheritance. 'Inherit' is the word yaresh, also translated 'possess,' and means 'legally an heir; military invasion in order to seize.'

[Zodhiates, Hebrew-Greek Key Study Bible, p. 1733] "Those who wait upon the Lord inherit and possess—worship and warfare! It's like David waiting upon the Lord, longing for Him, worshiping Him, writing songs to Him, and the next minute rising up, grabbing a lion by the mane and ripping his head off! Warring and winning were born from worshiping and waiting."

Today’s treasure truth #12: If you are “born again”, you are a daughter (son) of God. Rom. 8:14

Our thought today: The aim of a person of faith is not to be comfortable as possible, but to live as deeply in Christ as possible.
