Be on the Alert: Prayer Note #113

Dutch Sheets shares this with us today: "The Bible talks about watching- in various ways and for different reasons, not the least of which is watching in prayer.

This chapter (14 of Intercessory Prayer) is about the ‘watchman anointing’ – our calling and equipping as intercessors to be forewarned of and to pray against Satan’s schemes and plans.

It is a vital aspect of our intercession.

Eph. 6:18 says, ‘With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints” (italics mine). The KJV version uses the word “watching” for the phrase “be on the alert.”

First Peter 5:8, in warning us about our enemy, says, Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” (italics mine).

Again, other translations use the word “watchful.”

The context of both verses is spiritual warfare. Each mentions our adversary and challenges us to alertness or watchfulness, both for ourselves and for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

[Sheets next time will “draw four conclusions from the verses – Eph. 6:18, 1 Peter 5:8 and 2 Cor. 2:11.

The next Prayer Note2/7 - A Place for Human Responsibility: Prayer Note #114

Let's pray:  Father, please keep me aware of the tactics of Satan. May I be quick to respond to Your Spirit's urging me to pray. Amen

My personal prayer note: If you want the Baptism of the Holy Ghost, with speaking in tongues, simply ask and believe that you will receive. You may need to spend time alone, seeking this blessing. It is for every believer.

Today’s quote:  Eddie Jones – “The cool thing about the Gospels is we get snippets of Jesus as a man, son, brother, friend, teacher, student, savior, servant, and God. He laughs, scolds, councils, and yes, cries. This is the God we serve and worship -- not a vague, cosmic, starry-heavens deity, but a God with skin on and tear ducts that weep.

Our thought for today: Ask God to help you press beyond your feelings.
