#15 Plan Resistencia

Resistencia, Argentina
C. Peter Wagner shares his thought
on further issues from WARFARE
PRAYER:

After the Merigildo experience, the
city of Resistencia in the northern Argentina
province of Chaco came to Silvoso's attention.

The revival so prevalent in many parts of Argentina had seemed to bypass Resistencia.

Resistencia is Spanish for "resistance." Although the name originally had military connotations, the city turned out to be spiritually resistant as well.

As of the beginning of 1990, fewer than 6,000 of its 400,000 population were evangelical believers, a mere 1.5 percent.

In 1989, Silvoso had initiated a three-year Plan Resistencia aimed at significant, measurable evangelism.

He based it not only on state-of-the-art church growth techniques, but even more importantly on the spiritual warfare he had been learning about.

Silvoso discerned two major demonic strongholds over the evangelical community in Resistencia, a spirit of disunity and a spirit of apathy toward the lost.

He moved members of his Harvest Evangelism team into Resistencia and for over a year laid a foundation of prayer, spiritual warfare and leadership training.

By April of 1990 the tide had turned. Almost all the pastors were united and in agreement with the Plan Resistencia.

Christian people had begun witnessing and speaking of their neighbors as those who were "not yet believers." Disunity and apathy had been defeated by the power of God.

In April 1990, Ed Silvoso invited my wife, Doris, and me to visit Resistencia and train leaders in church growth principles.

While I was training leaders, Doris was taking the spiritual temperature of the city. What she discovered alarmed her. It became obvious that the believers had meager knowledge about strategic-level spiritual warfare and warfare prayer.

Unless this could be changed, the chances of a significant evangelistic impact were slim. She sensed that God wanted to see it changed.

Pray for your pastor: Time with God. "Lord, let nothing hinder my pastor's time with you. Protect my pastor from the distractions of busyness, unnecessary demands, fatigue, overcommitment, compromise, and doubt. Bless___________with rich study time, and give him/her opportunities, desire, and places to seek You in prayer, both alone and with others (Acts 6:2-4; Mat. 26:41; 2 Tim. 2:15; Mk. 1:35; Acts 1:14).

Pray with me:

Father, we are in need of Peter's teaching
today, as there is a great void of the under
standing of how to be successful in our
attempts to bring others to saving faith in
Christ.

May disunity and apathy be defeated by the power of God through our prayers and efforts.

Help us pray that our local pastors become united and in agreement with what all You want done in our area.

May there be a foundation of prayer, spiritual warfare and leadership training.

I ask for this to happen in the Name of Jesus, and for His glory. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Rom. 8:25 "But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it."

Today’s quote: Michael Brooks – “Sometimes it seems like things are so much more interesting, enjoyable, and even captivating when we are forced to be patient. When we don't get what we want right now.”

Some thoughts today: If you want to know God's purpose for you, do what you find to do, and He will show you.

- God's anointing is on you to accomplish His purpose. He will protect you as long as you're obeying His purpose for you.

- The reason why you've survived all of the attacks of the evil one, is to accomplish God's purpose!

" I could not tear my eyes away from the television screen as the 33 miners began to emerge from the depths of what could have been their mass grave.

The men had been trapped for more than two months in the collapsed Chilean copper mines nearly half a mile underground."
