#141 The Militant Use of the Name

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: There are many militant uses of the name of Jesus. This list is only suggestive. You will no doubt recall other important ways that the Holy Spirit has led you to use it to win victories for Christ.

In the light of the role of the name, use the name again and again to the glory of God and to the advancement of His kingdom. (Google image, Jesus)

    1. Use the name to clear the spiritual atmosphere. There are times when a spiritual oppressiveness clouds your horizon, darkens your outlook, and attempts to cripple your faith.

There are times and places in the world that Satan so claims for his own that some spiritually sensitive Christians actually feel Satan's power there.

Satan uses such spiritual oppression at times to try to take advantage of any weakened physical condition you may have. But it may be totally unrelated to anything for which you can account.

Sometimes in the midst of payer battles, the heavens almost seem to close in upon you. You know Satan is trying to block your prayer and fight against your prevailing.

Use the name of Jesus to clear the spiritual atmosphere and to push back the spiritual darkness. Sometimes just the word Jesus repeated over and over in spiritual insistence will clear the heavens for you.

   2. Use the name to claim protection. Whether you need to claim spiritual or physical protection, use the name of Jesus. I have seen a humble woman call "Jesus" and receive instant intervention by the Lord.

   3. Use the name to express your longing. There may be times in your prayer warfare when your longing or your burden becomes so great that you do not know how to pray. You can call the name of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, who knows your deepest heart-cry, will interpret it aright.

   4. Use the name to enforce the honor of Christ. You may be in a group that is blaspheming the name of Jesus, and because of your work you may not be able to avoid hearing them. Use the name of Jesus in silent prayer to silence the vile language of the others.

You may be in an angry, shouting mob—use the name of Jesus in silent prayer to calm the enraged emotions. Whatever the emergency, use the name of Jesus as your weapon in silent or in vocal prayer.

   5. Use the name of Jesus in militant faith. You may be sitting beside a sick one's bed, one too ill to disturb. Pray all that you feel led to pray. But you can rebuke Satan just by repeating the name of Jesus or pleading over and over, "In the name of Jesus."

     6. Use the name in holy determination. Militant faith and militant determination are often closely associate. In your prayer assault on Satan's strongholds that are thus far refusing to yield—whether prayer for the salvation of someone, for the restraint of evil, for the healing of a sick person, or for the casting out of a demon—you can take your stand in the name of Jesus and pleading the blood of Jesus.

You can press ahead; you can express your holy determination to see Christ's will be done. The psalmist expressed his militant determination thus:

"Through you we push back our enemies; through your
name we trample our foes" (Ps. 44:5)

   7. Use the name in the command of faith. When commanding your mountains to move, when commanding Satan to stop agitating division among Christians, when resisting Satan's onslaughts, when commanding a demon to be silent or to leave, or when commanding Satan to release a captive, use the almighty name of Jesus—the Jesus who defeated him at Calvary, the Jesus who will one day be his judge.

Peter commanded the cripple, "In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk" (Acts 3:6). Paul commanded the demon, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her" (16:18).

Prayer-

Girl praying

Father, it is true that we are to come to You in the name of Jesus, the One who died for us, and Who rose again to give us New Life.

As a little child, may we simply ask for Your help in the midst of our prayer battles when the heavens seem closed to us.
May we remember that Satan is determined to block our prayers, fighting against us anyway he can devise spiritually, or physically through our ailments.
Help us call on the name of Jesus to clear the atmosphere and to push back the spiritual darkness we're sensing. Sometimes saying "Jesus" over and over can accomplish more than one would expect.
May we have a holy determination to win battles for our Lord and to see victories to His honor, as we express our deepest desires, and are militant in our prayer warfare.
I ask this in His holy name: Jesus. Amen.

Today's Bible verses-

2 Chron. 14:11 (KJV) " And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee."

Is. 44:8 (KJV) "Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any."

Today's quote-
Maureen Longnecker: "In our modern, scientific, technologically-savvy country, it's easy to downplay satanic power. We tend to view everything from the physical realm without realizing there are spiritual forces at work all around us. When we minimize what Satan can do, our indifference gives him the ability to work more effectively. We need to acknowledge the reality of spiritual warfare and learn how to fight back instead of ignoring it and playing into Satan's hands." (Taken from p. 29 of her book, The Other Side of the Tapestry).

Today's popular post-

Devotion to God is the Springboard for Everything

Dutch Sheets, in his book Intercessory Prayer, tells us, "Those who wait upon the Lord inherit and possess—worship and warfare!

It is interesting, even paradoxical, but true, that warfare is often born from worship. Out of our waiting often comes warring.

It is the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ that must be the springboard for everything we do."
