So, Tell Me About Forgiveness

Jean Oathout: Do I just say, "I forgive you," and that takes care of it?

When we take the time to closely examine how we are reacting to an emotional or physical injury, we may begin to see there's more to it than what meets the eye. (Google image, Two friends talking)

If we dig deeply, we may even see that we're troubled with how we've acted and reacted in the situation. The hardest part after we do manage to forgive the other person, may be to forgive ourselves.

To receive good counsel can help us see things from another viewpoint, and to help us make wiser decisions in the future. To remove ourselves from an abusive situation when there's no lasting change for the better, may be what's best for some.

There will be times we'll need to forgive someone for a one-time offence. Other times, in a situation that endangers our lives, we may have to ask some serious questions. When we find our heart's been deeply hurt, we'll need to be healed from within, and this may take some time with godly counseling.

When we look at what God's Word says about forgiving, (see Scriptures below), we will see we're instructed to do so, and as many times as needed.

When we begin to open up to someone who wants to help us
heal, there will be times of deep regret of things that took place
and said. We cannot take back and change the past, but if we can turn it over to the Lord, and ask for His help, we'll be able to release it into His care to deal with.

Only God can cause us to do that, for it's His idea that we come to Him for help. We can be assured that He will be faithful to lift the load of unforgiveness from us when we do.

Over time, memories will surface, but when they do, we're to remind satan that God's taken care of the hurt, and we can once again give our care over to Him to renew our peace.

As there are evil forces that try to get us upset over present and past hurts, we have been instructed by God to come to Him each time. When we sense an offence, we're to gain victory through our perseverance to seek His help through prayer, trust and faith in His faithfulness to hear us.

Our prayer today-

"Dear Lord, help me to seek You above all else. May I lift my eyes and remember where my help comes from. May I know You orchestrate all things, in all ways, and at all times. May I rest in your care and trust your leading. Thank you, God. In Jesus’ Name,
Amen." (Kelly Balarie)

Today's Bible verses-

Jeremiah 31:3 I have loved you with an everlasting love
Psalm 100:5 (NASB) For the Lord is good; His
lovingkindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to
      all generations.

Is. 12:2, 3 (KJV) "Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust,
and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength
and my song; he also is become my salvation. (v.3)
Therefore With joy shall ye draw water out of the wells
     of salvation."

Matthew 6:14-15 (AMPC“For if you forgive people
their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving
them, letting them go, and giving  up resentment], your
heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not
forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and
willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up
resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your                              trespasses."

Galatians 5:1“It was for freedom that Christ set us free.”
Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)“Be kind to one another, tender-
hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ
      forgave you."

Today's quotes-
~ Martin Luther King, Jr.- Love is the only force
capable of transforming an enemy into friend.
Gerald G. Jampolsky  When we think we have been hurt by someone in the past, we build up defenses to protect ourselves from being hurt in the future. So the fearful past causes a fearful future and the past and future become one. We cannot love when we feel fear.... When we release the fearful past and forgive everyone, we will experience total love and oneness with all.

~ Lisa Buffalow- "Instead of placing the emphasis on the mess done by the devil, let’s place the emphasis on the message of what God has done, who God is, what God can do no matter how messy the life. Jesus makes all things new. All things! No one is too messed up. Nothing is impossible for God!"

What if you knew?  Lisa Buffaloe

"What if you knew how much you are loved?
What if you really, really, really believed God loved you?
Would you see God, yourself, your life, and others differently?
Would you believe that, know that, live that, remember that all   things work for the good because your Heavenly Father loves you,   really, really, really loves you? . . .
(Check out the rest of her post!)

Oh Father, I believe, help my unbelief. Help me to know You, for You are love. Let me swim, diving deep into the beauty of Your unfailing, everlasting kindness and love. Help me to know, and always remember, how much I am loved."

Today's question-

Do you have a forgiving heart?

Oh Father, the opportunities to be offended are endless and come on a daily basis. We do need Your help to identify them, and then to deal with them with hearts of faith. Each one of us may have an offence or two lurking within our souls that You want us to face and deal with.
Once we've read the Scriptures on forgiveness (see above), may we be convicted of our own offences, and ask for Your Holy Spirit to reveal them to us. We give each one to You for the healing and release needed to bring the peace of Christ into our hearts and souls.
We may actually feel hatred for someone's making foolish and hurtful decisions towards our loved ones, thus giving us an offence to deal with. When we have fretted over a situation, we ask for Your forgiveness and healing. May we not receive offences, but instead through prayer give them to You to deal with.
We will give You the glory due Your mighty name for giving us the help we so desperately need in order to keep our hearts right with You. Thank You, Father!
