#33 Victory Through Intercession

Andrew Murray- "Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints" (Ephesians 6:18).

The Christian's wrestling is against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. He must put on his armor and wield the sword of the Spirit in complete dependence on God and with confidence in His all-sufficient grace. (Google image, Mighty men of prayer

A life of constant prayer is the secret of a life of victory. Praying in the Spirit is the mark of the normal spiritual life.

Our lungs are kept breathing by the divine power which upholds our physical life. Likewise, the Holy Spirit will certainly breathe in us that prayer which maintains the powers of the divine life and the heavenly world.

Salvation is not accomplished by works or struggling. We are God's workmanship, "created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10).

The Bible tells us that we are a divine creation, not finished and left to ourselves, but with every moment of our lives upheld by the Word of His power. Unceasing prayer is possible and is commanded because the eternal Spirit causes it to become the heavenward breathing of the soul.

   What Should We Pray For?

Praying at all times is by no means to be selfish, referring only to our own needs. "Watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints." Paul taught us the importance of unity in the Body of Christ in love.

In contrast to the wrestling of believers with the powers of darkness, he speaks of the unity of the saints as they form one great army of the Lord.

This army has been made alive by one spirit and is striving together to establish His Kingdom in the world. Continual earnest prayer for all believers is not only our duty, but is vital for the welfare and the victory of the whole Body.

We can learn the subject of our prayers from Paul's own petitions. In chapter one, he prayed for those who had already been sealed with the Spirit. He asked that God would give them the Spirit of wisdom and divine illumination that they might know the greatness of His power in all who believe.

Believers need to allow this great truth to take hold of their hearts and thoroughly possess them. Those who have sought this for themselves need to be reminded of their calling to make this request for others.

The health of the Church as a whole and the spiritual strength of individual believers or churches depends on our perseverance in prayer for all the saints.

True believers need the prayers of other believers. The prayer is to be specific, pleading for the Spirit of divine power to fill their inner man, that Christ may dwell in their hearts and that they be rooted in love. All believers are to unite in pleading for all the saints.

Let's pray-

Father, "In the name of Jesus, I tear down, demolish, annihilate, crush and smash wrong, ungodly strongholds (thought patterns) handed down to me from my forefathers. I capture and bring into obedience mindsets that are in opposition to the Word of God. Forgive me for exalting my family culture, customs and traditions above your Word, and loving the world more than I love you. Forgive me for being stiff-necked, stubborn and rebellious, and insisting on having my own way. I repent of and renounce selfishness and self-centeredness. Father, I thank you for loving me, and for cleansing me from all unrighteousness in the strong and majestic name of Jesus. Amen"

Today's Bible verses-

       1 Peter 2:9, 17 (NKJV) " But you are a chosen
generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
His own special people, that you may proclaim
the praises of Him who called you out of darkness
into His marvelous light. (v. 17) Honor all people.
Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king."

1 Thess. 5:16-19 (NKJV) "Rejoice always,
       (v. 17) pray without ceasing, (v. 18) in everything
give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ
Jesus for you. (v. 19) Do not quench the Spirit."

Col. 4:2-5 (NKJV) "Continue earnestly in prayer,
being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; (v. 3) meanwhile
praying also for us, that God would open to us a door
for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which
I am also in chains, (v. 4) that I may make it manifest,
       as I ought to speak."

Today's quote-

“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
(John 20:29)
"You don’t even have to believe, necessarily in yourself or your thoughts; believe in God. God is who He is and who He is — He will always be.
'God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind.' (Nu. 23:19)

Words of wisdom-

~ We need to be filled with the Spirit of Christ to get a fresh grip on life. Our "climate" change happens when we are refined in the Holy Ghost.
As long as we're filled with the Spirit, we are possessors of all that Christ offers.

Today's popular post-
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: "There is unusual power in united prayer. God has planned for His people to join together in prayer, not only for Christian fellowship, spiritual nurture, and growth, but also for accomplishing His divine purposes and reaching His chosen goals . . . "
