What are Godly Decisions? Part 1

Jean Oathout asks these questions: What are "godly decisions"? Do we consider what God wants us to do, and make every effort to please Him?...so our daily choices and decisions honor Him?

I find that I often pray for some folks to make godly decisions, and I began to wonder what exactly that might look like... So what is it that they/we need to consider in order to make decisions we can be at peace with?

The following are some thoughts I want to share about our efforts to make better decisions on nearly a daily basis:

  • Eating- What is it that we allow to enter out mouths? Will it be wholesome and life-giving?
  • Conversations- What do we say, and how is it said? Is there a display of anger and resentfulness? or do we speak with love and concern for others? (see Matt. 12:36, 37; Eph. 4:22-24)
  • Exercising- Are we giving our bodies opportunities to be strengthened?
  • Habits/activities- What we decide to do is apparently important to us. Our activities may very well show our main interests. What do your habits say about you?
  • Plans/direction- Will we consider what would be best to do, and where to gowill it be pleasing to God? (see Ps. 143:8; Jer. 29:11).
  • Thoughts- Are we careful of the thoughts we entertain? Do they honor God and what He would most likely be saying to us? Or are they thoughts that come to us to lead us away from God's plan for us? (Check out Joyce Meyer's book The Battlefield of the Mind, Winning the Battle of Your Mind for a great resource. I just ordered mine! Check out the great prices available).
  • Convictions/beliefs- Are our heart-felt beliefs strong enough to carry us through our daily living, and will they hold us together in difficult times?
  • Emotions/feelings- Do we allow them to control us? Will we be careful to examine and control them when in a challenging situation?
  • Read- The material we read has lasting affects on our thoughts and decisions. Are you mindful of their influencing what you think, feel and believe?
  • Friends- Are they ones who'll help us make good decisions to become better husbands, wives, children or singles?
  • Attitudes- What will we glean from others? Do we agree with, entertain what they think, and allow them to influence our words and actions?
  • Protection- In our every-day living, we constantly need God's help to stay safe, healthy and actively busy in His life-plan for us. Are you conscious of this?
There are many other things to make godly decisions about. I will have Part 2 on this subject on the 16th. We can see that our choices do count when it comes to the whole of who we are in our daily living, and whether or not we please the Lord.

Today’s Bible verses: 1 Peter 1:15, 16 "But as he which
hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." (see also verses 14 - 19 )

Ps, 25:12 KJV  "What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he (God) teach in the way he shall choose."

Col. 4:6 "Let my speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that I may know how I ought to answer every man."

Father, I know You desire me to be good example in my living each day by my actions and conversations.
Help me resolve to be more aware of my life style, that I may honor You at all times.
I see I need Your grace to do it!
I pray this in Jesus' Name, the One who loves me, and who wants to help me be  successful in my living. Amen.

Today’s quotes: "God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything' (1 John 3:20). Because of this, He knows exactly how to help us. Lasting heart-level change and real progress with our problems originate with God. Trusting Him and living to please Him means we can flourish and be truly free." (ODB 11/27/15) Jennifer Benson Schuldt

"The words that we speak can get us into trouble, and they can get us out of trouble. There will be times in life when we will have to navigate our personal and business life using the words that we speak. There will be times when we are under pressure and supernatural intervention is needed as the task before us may seem humanly unattainable.

There will be moments when it is crunch-time, and we are under extreme deadlines. It is at those times when our words are not enough, that we need to whisper in the ear of God and ask Him to be our voice." (by  ) Darrell Creswell {Taken from Whisper in the Ear of God – Allow Him To Be Your Voice – Inspirational Bible Verses  on JANUARY 12, 2015}

"In an increasingly chaotic world, what a hopeful thought that this could be the year Jesus returns. More comforting still is the anticipation that all who trust Him for salvation will be gathered together, relieved from this world's suffering, sorrow, and fear. Best of all, we'll be with the Lord forever!" Joe Stowell  (ODB 1/1/16)

Our special thought today comes from:  Phil. 4:8

"Finally, brethren,
  whatsoever things are true
   whatsoever things are just
    whatsoever things are pure
     whatsoever things are lovely
whatsoever things are of good report
       if there be any virtue
and if there be any praise
         think on these things."
