#96 You Must Pray In The Spirit

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- Over the centuries, the history of God's people proves the relationship of the Holy Spirit and prayer. Spurgeon said, "Prayer is an art which only the Holy Ghost can teach us. He is the giver of all prayer."

   E. M. Bounds believed, "The secret of feeble praying everywhere is the lack of God's Spirit in His mightiness."  (Google image, Man praying in the Spirit

You must be filled with the Spirit and live in the Spirit if you would really prevail in the Spirit as you intercede. Feeble praying is caused by a shallow experience of the Holy Spirit. To be filled with the Spirit is to be controlled by the Spirit, and only He can qualify you for an effective prayer life.

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying" (Eph. 6:18).

"Pray in the Holy Spirit" (Jude 20).

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will" (Rom. 8:26-27).

"We . . . have access to the Father by one Spirit" (Eph. 2:18).

The Holy Spirit is the great Enabler of this His dispensation. A major role of His ministry in the Christian is to enable him to pray as he ought. Praying thus becomes a real partnership with the Holy Spirit.

To watch and pray requires that you be very sensitive to the Holy Spirit — to His checks, His promptings, His moods. Keeping spiritually awake and alert helps you live in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and pray in the Spirit. You thus come to experience his mind and His desires.

Let's pray-

"Dear Jesus, You're the true King. Forgive me for wanting You to only fix the problems in the world around me and not to confront the sin in my heart. Show me where I'm prone to wander and expose the ways I want to run my own life." (ODB 1/26/21)

Quotes for today-

~ Andrew Murray- "God has appointed intercession as one of the means by which souls shall be saved, and saints and ministers of the Gospel edified and built up in the faith. Even the ends of the earth will receive life and blessing through our prayers. If you surrender yourself to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and live a life wholly for God, you will realize that the time spent in prayer is an offering well-pleasing to God, bringing blessing to yourself, and power into the lives of those for whom you pray."

~ Anne Adams- "Personal difficulties can make us anxious, but we can seek answers, encouragement, and hope from God. Our connection with Him is direct—no interference as with a fax machine. We also have an added advantage. When we pray, God is there to hear and respond. We’ll never encounter voicemail."

Words of wisdom-

~ Will you keep your confidence in the Lord inspite of the challenges before you? As He is Faithful, He will see you through your fears, so you can be victorious. Your face will radiate peace when you trust Him.

Today's question-

        Now What? What's Next?

We are to examine ourselves and make sure that we have taken advantage of Jesus' Redemption/Salvation. It is time to admit our sins and repent of them, that they may be blotted out. True repentance brings deep remorse and godly grief, with a desire to turn from what we'd been doing. By rejecting and abandoning them and turning to God, we're using godly wisdom.

When apologies are needed, walk through the experiences and ask for forgiveness. As sin is against a holy God, be quick to admit when you know you've done wrong. It may be that you have offended someone by an act or a word that hurt them. God wants to deliver us from ourselves and our sins. Examine yourself before God, and make sure your sins have been blotted out. Always be quick to repent whenever the Holy Spirit reveals to you a sin that you've committed. Endeavor to keep your soul clean before God and others.
