Death: What the Bible Says

“What person alive will not die? Who can escape the grave?  Ps. 89:48 New Century Version, (NCV)

“The same thing happens to animals and to people; they both have the same breath, so they both die… both end up the same way; both came from dust and both will go back to dust.” Ecc. 3:19a-20 NCV.

“See, even wise people die. Fools and stupid people also die and leave their wealth to others. Even rich people do not live forever; like the animals, people die. But God will save my life and will take me from the grave.”  Ps. 49:10, 12, 15 NCV

“Jesus said, ‘You people are from here below, but I am from above. You belong to this world, but I don’t belong to this world. So I told you that you would die in your sins. Yes, you will die in your sins if you don’t believe that I am he.’ ”  John 8:23-24 NCV

“In the past you were spiritually dead because of your sins and the things you did against God.”  Eph. 2:1 NCV

“When you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and you were raised up with him through your faith in God’s power that was shown when he raised Christ from the dead. When you were spiritually dead because of our sins and because you were not free from the power of your sinful self, God made you alive with Christ, and he forgave all our sins.”  Col. 2:12-13 NCV

“I tell you the truth, whoever obeys my teaching will never die.”  John 8:51 NCV

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me will have life even if they die.’ ”   John 11:25 NCV

“It is now shown to us by the coming of our Savior Christ Jesus. He destroyed death, and through the Good News he showed us the way to have life that cannot be destroyed.”  2 Tim. 1:10 NCV

“Respect for the Lord gives life. It is like a fountain that can save people from death. The wicked are ruined by their own evil, but those who do right are protected even in death.”  Prov. 14:27, 32 NCV

“If we live, we are living for the Lord, and if we die, we are dying for the Lord. So living or dying, we belong to the Lord. The reason Christ died and rose from the dead to live again was so he would be Lord over both the dead and living.”  Ro. 14:8-9 NCV

“Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to those he wants to. I tell you the truth, whoever hears what I say and believes in the One who sent me has eternal life. That person will not be judged guilty but has already left death and entered life.”  John 5:21, 24 NCV
