An Element of Surprise

“…for the Son of Man cometh at an hour when ye think not.”  Luke 12:40

     “The element of surprise is always the note of the life of the Holy Ghost in us. We are born again by the great surprise—‘The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit’ John 3:8 KJV.

     Men cannot tie up the wind, it blows where it lists; neither can the work of the Holy Spirit be tied up in logical methods. Jesus never comes where we expect Him; if He did He would not have said ‘Watch’. Be ye also ready; for in an hour when ye think not, the Son of Man cometh.’ {Referring to Luke 12:40}

     Jesus appears in the most illogical connections, where we least expect Him, and the only way a Christian worker can keep true to God amidst the difficulties of work Is to be ready for His surprise visits. We have not to depend on the prayers of other people, not to look for the sympathy of God’s children, but to be ready for the Lord.

     It is this intense reality of expecting Him at every turn that gives life the attitude of child wonder that Jesus wants it to have. When we are rightly related to God, life is full of spontaneous joyful uncertainty and expectancy—we do not know what God is going to do next; and He packs our life with surprises all the time.”  (pg. 725)

These following Quotes are From Our Daily Bread devotional:

            “What wonders await us in yonder fair land!
              The face of our Savior, the touch of His hand,
              No tears and no crying, no sighs or despair,
              For Jesus is waiting to welcome us there.—Kerr

        To see Jesus will be heaven’s greatest joy.” (8/2/11)

              “It may not be for me to see
             The meaning and the mystery
        Of all that God has planned for me
                Till ‘afterward’!  --Anon

In the world of mystery, it’s a comfort to know the God who knows all things.”  (8/28/11)

“Therefore watch (give strict attention, be cautious and alert), for you do not know when the Master of the house is coming – in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrowing, or in the morning – [Watch, I say] lest He come suddenly and unexpectedly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to everybody: Watch (give strict attention, be cautious, active, and alert)!  Mark 13:35-37 Amp.
