Mysterious Ways: The Friendly Deer

Rick Hamlin tells us that "Singer Amy Grant and some friends had rented a cabin for a weekend getaway in the Indiana wilderness, someplace serene where they could open their hearts to each other.

One of the group talked about her difficult childhood, the struggles and unhappiness she faced, and how they haunted her to this day.

The story shook Amy to the core. She was seven months pregnant at the time. 'I felt a very real fear for that could happen to my child despite all of my efforts to keep her safe,' Amy wrote in her memoir, Mosaic.

Any needed to be alone, to clear her head of worries. She went for a walk down a wooded hill, toward a little creek.

She kept worrying about all the dangers in the world her child would face.

A crackle in the undergrowth made Amy look up. It was a deer, not much more than a fawn.

She moved closer, transfixed.

Surely the deer would bolt. Gut it stayed stock-still.

Amy slowly reached out and touched the animal's wet nose.

Instantly, both jumped back. She and deer studied each other.

Gently, she extended her had again and petted the deer, stoking its soft chest.

Finally she embraced the deer, her fear and anxiety melting away in the long hug they shared.

The cabin owners must be feeding it, she thought. Why else would it allow me so close? She pulled away, and the deer disappeared into the woods.

Later, while she was packing to leave, one of the owners of the cabin dropped by.

Amy mentioned how enjoyable it must be to feed the deer.

The owner was puzzled. No, no deer had ever ventured anywhere near the cabin before."

Let’s pray:
Father, my I become aware of ways You choose to bring comfort to me. Let Your will be done within my circumstances, so You'll receive the glory, and it will turn out for
my good. Thank You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Prov. 21:2 (NKJV) "Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the hearts."

Today’s quote: John Bunyon - "Prayer will make a man cease from sin, or sin will entice a man to cease from prayer."

Our thought today: Your circumstances cannot prevent you from the kingdom. It’s not what’s around you, but depends on your determination to answer God’s call to His salvation He provides in Christ.
