#24 Crisis Intercession

C. Peter Wagner tells us that "A crisis intercessor prays almost exclusively on assignment, and the assignment comes from the Father.

They do not respond well to random requests for prayer from individual people, and most of them would be bored to tears with a prayer list..

They like to go into their prayer time with worship and praise, draw near to the Father, and hear directly from him what they are to pray for.

Some assignments are short term, some long term.

Once God tells them to pray through a crisis situation they will hang on to it like a bulldog until it is resolved or until God 'releases' them from the assignment.

My friend Christy Graham says, 'I fit mostly into the category of 'crisis intercessor.' The Lord shows me specific concerns and people for which to intercede.

Usually, but not always, it is for a specific time of crisis that I carry the burden to pray.'

She says that frequently the Lord supernaturally gives specific insight about a particular person's need. She adds, 'Along with the information comes a burden to pray and a sense of responsibility.'

Among other things, Christy had been given a long-standing and indefinite assignment to pray for Albania.

When I first heard this I felt sorry for poor Christy because there appeared to be no chance whatever that Albania, the world's most anti-Christian nation, would ever open to the gospel.

But the world stood in awe as things changed in 1991 and Albania opened.

The angels may be rejoicing, but none more than Christy Graham whose prayers, along with those of many others, had a part in opening that nation for God's Kingdom.

As I read Paul's word about Epaphras in Colosians, I have a hunch I am reading about a crisis intercessor.

Paul says that Epaphras is "always laboring fervently for you in prayers," and not only does he have a 'great zeal' for the Colossian believers, but also for those in  Laodicea  and Hierapolis (see Col. 4:12, 13)

That sounds like the kind of assignments intercessors such as Christy Graham receives from God."

Today’s post -#24 Crisis Intercession, in the series taken from

leaders and others on the spiritual frontlines. (pgs. 54,55) By Regal Books

The next
post on 10/8 #25 Personal and Warfare Intercession

Pray with me: Father, let us be a part of what concerns You today. May we be willing to pray for what You show us needs prayer support. Open our hearts as to the responsibility as Christians to support our brothers and sisters in their needs. Help our spiritual leaders stay close to You, so they can be effective in leading us closer to You. In Jesus' holy Name we ask. Amen

A prayer for your pastor:  Pray that your pastor will cultivate strong character and uncompromising integrity. Pray that his testimony will be genuine, and that will never do anything that he would need to hide from others. (1Tim. 1:5; 3:7; Eph. 6:10-12) {Taken from www.LifeAction.org  "31 days of Praying for Your Pastor".

Today’s Bible verse: Is. 33:6 KJV "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure."

Today’s quote: Bobby Conner – “The Lord specifically wants to increase your capacity for intimate communion with Him. He longs to speak to you “deep unto deep,” Spirit to spirit Psalms 42:7. Just as the Lord promised the prophet Jeremiah, He assures us that He will answer our cries to know Him and commune with our Maker.”

Some
thoughts today: How can I know God's Voice to guide me? Read His Word. What words seem anointed? Do you sense peace? What of the counseling you've received, does it agree with what you're sensing to be God's direction for you?

- Quiet yourself down. Look for a vision, keeping your eyes on Jesus. Journal freely what you're experiencing. You can go back and critique what you've written. Do not doubt while your writing. Time will test what you've written. Ask God to speak His heart to you. Start with a word or two, and then keep writing, trusting that it is He Who is directing what you're writing.
