#21 The Prevailing Christ

Wesley L. Duewel: "He prevailed as the preincarnate Christ. There are indications in Scripture that our ascended Lord, the enthroned Christ, has had an intercessory role from the time of Adam and Eve till today.

It will continue at least until all of the church has been united with the Lord in heaven. Was there instant intercession by the preincarnate Jesus when Adam and Eve sinned?

Is not that why they did not instantly die physically when they did spiritually?

We know that Jesus accompanied Israel throughout their desert wanderings (Exod. 14:19; 33:14; Isa. 63:9; 1 Cor. 10:4). The statement, 'My Presence will go with you,' in Exodus 33:14 is literally 'My face will go with you.'

Christ is the only visible face of Jehovah. If Jehovah-Jesus in His preincarnate form constantly accompanied Israel, sharing their sorrows, undoubtedly He interceded for them constantly, adding His intercession and amen, for example, to the intercession of Moses (Exod. 32) and the prophets  (Isa. 62).

Hints of Christ's existence, presence, and ministry are given in the Old Testament, but all becomes clear and explicit in the New Testament.

One of the most startling passages that both veils and yet reveals Christ's prevailing intercession is found in (Isaiah 62:1.

Many commentators see this verse as the voice of God or the voice of the Servant of Jehovah—in other words, the preincarnate Christ.

'For Zion's sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem's
sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness
shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a
     blazing torch.'

In what way will He not keep silent? The answer is found in verses 6 and 7:

    'I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night. You who call
on the LORD, give yourselves no rest, and give him no
rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the
     praise of the earth.'

Because the preincarnate Christ is determined not to be silent (Isa. 62:1), He calls on those who call on the Lord—in other words, who intercede—never to be silent.

God's purpose for Jerusalem (the literal Jerusalem then, but more fully now the spiritual Jerusalem, the church) is so great and urgent that He and we must unite together in ceaseless prevailing prayer. Oh, the billions of times Christ has interceded for his people over the centuries!"

Father, may we not be silent when a need is evident to us, and Your Spirit urges us to pray.
As Christ is Your only visible face for us, and we have His example all through the Bible, help us become the prayer warriors
You need to have, to accomplished Your will  here on earth.
I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Is. 52:10 "The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God."

Today’s quote: "Difficulty and delay requite persevering prayer to obtain the true blessing and blessedness of the heavenly life. As we persevere, we learn how little we delight in fellowshipping with God and how little living faith we have in Him. We discover how earthly and unspiritual our hearts still are how little we have of God's Holy Spirit. We come to know our own weakness and unworthiness. We yield to God's Spirit to pray in us and to take our place in Christ Jesus, and we abide in Him as our only plea with the Father." (Taken from p. 46 of The Ministry of Intercession by Andrew Murry)

But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: He is their strength in the time of trouble. Neil Vermillion

Our thought today: There's a prophetic dimension in prayer. We're called to something bigger than ourselves. We're to pray for the Kingdom to come into our area and lives. Elisha prayed; things happened! He understood the l call on his life. (1 Kings 18)

Our question today: How long am I to pray for God's will to be done?

Answer: We're to prevail in prayer for what we sense is God's will in a situation, until it becomes evident that things are changing. Then, to keep praying for His involvement in every detail of it. God waits on us to ask for His will to be done. Remember the Lord's prayer... "thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

C. Peter Wagner tells us: "God calls I-1 intercessors to have a special close relationship with the pastor or other leader.

Sometimes this involves a close social relationship, sometimes it is a largely spiritual relationship. Most, if not all, of the I-1 intercessors I know..."

  1. Wow--Isaiah 62 is the exact scripture that I use when praying for the county that I live in. This is powerful!
