#66 Living on this Side of Pentecost

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: Living on this side of Pentecost, we have far greater availability of the Spirit's ministry than had the saints of the Old Testament.

We should know in a far greater degree the power and reality of prayer and the life of prevailing prayer through the Spirit.
(Google image, Worship God Through Relationship).

We should know in a far greater degree the power and reality of prayer and the life of prevailing prayer through the spirit. By sending the Holy Spirit, God has made available to us "the incomparably great power for us who believe" (Eph. 1:19).

Paul thus prayed constantly that the church might know God better and know His power better (vv. 17-21). It is all waiting for us to discover and appropriate through prevailing prayer.

"The gift which He so freely bestowed has never yet been
exhausted. The skies are still full of Pentecosts. The great
need is for men who know how to prevail with God so as
to bring down the showers upon the church and the
world.

Here lies the...secret of carrying forward the Apostolic
prayer-life in full operation, as well as all the other
ministries of the Spirit."
(Payne, The Greatest Force
on Earth, 128).

In prayer, as in all else in our spiritual life, it is " 'not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD Almighty" (Zech. 4:6).

It may well be that Jesus had this promise in mind when He said your faith could move any opposing mountain, for the very next verse in this passage in Zechariah says, "What are you, O mighty mountain?. . . You will become level ground."

When God called the church to supernatural work for him, He provided supernatural power. That supernatural dynamic of the Spirit operates through prayer, faith, and obedience.

Why do we depend almost exclusively on our best wisdom, the perfecting of our own methods, and our psychological and managerial training?

We have been so busy depending on our own natural strengths, our good training, and our busyness for God that we are near spiritual bankruptcy.

We hardly know what it means to pray in the Spirit and to have our words accompanied by "a demonstration of the Spirit's power" (1 Cor. 2:4).

Mighty prevailing prayer will accompany a mighty spiritual revolution in our soul. God's overwhelming presence in our worship services and His almightiness making our evangelism and missionary endeavor effective are waiting for us to have a new dimension of prayer life by the dynamic of the Spirit.

Let's pray-

Woman's hands on Bible
(Lesson on fear)
Father, we are indeed privileged to lay claim to Your Holy Spirit!
   Help us remember that  the
supernatural dynamic of the Spirit operates through prayer, faith, and obedience.
If we want Your overwhelming presence in our worship services and various meeting, we simply must pray for the Holy Spirit's involvement.
We ask Your guidance in our increase of trust in Your Spirit to help us pray effectively. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Bible verses-

Acts 2:38 (AMP) "And Peter answered them, Repent
(change your views and purpose to accept the will of
God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and
be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus
Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your
sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Acts 6:32 (AMP) "And we are witnesses of these things,
and the Holy Spirit is also, Whom God has bestowed on
       those who obey Him."

Today's quote-

Carol Cymbala's song, as found on p. 62 of Jim Cymbala's book,

FRESH WIND, FRESH FIRE.

"In my moments of fear,
Through every pain, every tear,
There's a God who's been faithful to me.
When my strength was all gone,
When my heart had no song,
Still in love he's proved faithful to me.
Every word He's promised is true;
What I thought was impossible, I see my God do.

He's been faithful, faithful to me,
Looking back, his love and mercy I see.
Though in my heart I have questioned,
Even failed to believe,
Yet he's been faithful, faithful to me.

When my heart looked away,
The many times I could not pray,
Still my God, he was faithful to m e.
The days I spent so selfishly,
Reaching out for what pleased me;
Even then God was faithful to me
Every time I come back to him,
He is waiting with open arms,
And I see once again.

He's been faithful, faithful to me..."
