#77 God Honors United Prayer

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: We have discussed uniting together for the same request. Now we consider untied prayer.

United prayer can occur in the regular services of the church at periods when all join in intercession.

Alas, often so little time is given during worship services for united intercession. No part of the service has greater potential for blessing than when the congregation takes time for united prevailing intercession for definite needs. (Google image)

It is a tremendous responsibility to lead God's people to God's throne and in God's presence in public prayer.

God can so strongly anoint the one who leads in prayer that all present are brought into consciousness of God's presence until the one praying is forgotten and the people as one in heart and soul unite and agree in the prayer.

Special united prayer meetings can be convened. Prayer meetings have been held from the earliest days of the church.

The ten days between Christ's ascension and Pentecost were largely given to united prayer. The believers then met together daily for prayer (Acts 2:42).

When peter and John were brought before the Sanhedrin and threatened because of the healing of the crippled beggar, they returned to the group of believers, who engaged in such united prevailing prayer that the place where they were meeting was physically shaken, and again the believers were "all filled with the Holy Spirit" (4:31).

From then on, prayer times characterized the early church. Christ planned to build and extend His church through prayer meetings.

Many churches have traditionally had a midweek prayer meeting. In all too many of these meetings most of the time is given to singing, testimony, and Bible study or exposition, and a comparatively small amount of time is actually spent in intercession.

Many churches have a variety of midweek church activity alternatives. Various good subjects are taught, and perhaps only one of these groups is designated a prayer group.

Even there, the danger can be that so much time is spent talking about the listed needs that tragically little time is actually spent interceding.

United prayer can continue at much greater length at times specially set apart primarily for prayer. Special prayer services have been called for the express purpose of prevailing in prayer.

Usually, thank God, such services are given almost entirely to prayer. One after another leads the group in prayer, or a large group may divide up into small groups so that more people are actively praying the entire time set apart for prayer.

Let's pray-

Father, as our local Christian Fellowship Churches, [CFC bodies], will be meeting the 3rd, 4th and 5th of January for prayer, may we understand that it will be a great opportunity to join together in united prayer.
We are invited to join our brothers and sisters at the respective churches to pray for those who attend, and for those who are in leadership there.
This will be our once-a-year special time to gather for specific prayer, trusting You'll honor our persistent and expectant prayers for Your Presence at the various church bodies.
May we seek times of untied prayer at other times also, and may each of us reading this post bring honor to Your name in our various churches. In the name of Jesus we ask this.  Amen.

Today's Bible verses-

(Ps. 62:8 KJV) "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah." [Think about that!]

(Ps. 46:7 NIV) "The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah."

(2 Cor. 10:4 AMP) "For the weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood], but they are mighty before God for the overthrow and destruction of strongholds."

Today's quote-

Oswald Chambers- "Love has to get to its transfiguration point of being poured out unto the Lord. If you have become bitter and sour, it is because when God gave you a blessing you clutched it for yourself; whereas if you had poured it out unto the Lord, you would have been the sweetest person out of heaven.

If you are always taking blessings to yourself and never learn to pour out anything unto the Lord, other people so not get their horizon enlarged through you." [p. 510 in Devotions for MORNING and  EVENING with OSWALD CHAMBERS, 1994]

Our popular post- #41 How to Deepen Your Desire by Dr. Wesley L. Duewel
1. Welcome God-given desires. From one viewpoint, real desire is a gift of God. From another viewpoint, you must deepen your own desire with the help of God.

Finney teaches that if you find a desire for the good of other people strongly impressed upon you...
