Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: 5. Plead the past answers to prayer. It is always good to praise the Lord for all that He has already done.
Remind God of how heavily He has already invested His mercy, His faithfulness, and His power. Remind Him of how the task is incomplete. (Google image, People praying together)
You are where you are today (or God's cause is where it is today or your nation is where it is today) because of God's repeated patience, mercy, goodness, protection, help, and guidance.
This is the way Moses pleaded. On Mount Sinai Moses began his intercession by recounting how much God had already invested in Israel (Exod. 32:11-12).
David, too, reminded God of His past mercy:
"You have been my helper" (Ps. 27:9). "Since my youth,
O God, you have taught me . . . Even when I am old
and gray, do not forsake me, O God" (71:17-18).
A number of the Psalms remind God and the people in detail of His past mercies (78; 85:1-7; 105-6; 136).
Present your pleading arguments for new mercies on the basis of the history of all He has already done. But the task is unfinished. God has invested too much to stop now. Plead for God's mercy and power to be renewed and to bring final victory.
6. Plead the Word and the promises of God. Follow the example of God's prevailing Bible saints and quote to God His holy promises. In the night when Jacob wrestled with God, he held God to His word and promise.
"O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O
LORD, who said to me . . . " Exod. 33:12).
He added, "You have said . . , " and he quoted more of God's promise back to Him (v. 12). From that praying ground Jacob could not retreat, no matter what it cost him, and he prevailed.
That was also the holy insistence of Moses.
"Moses said to the LORD, 'You have been telling me . . .
You have said . . . ' "
Moses pressed his point: if what You said is true, then
"teach me your ways so I may know you and continue
to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is
your people" (v. 13).
God replied,
"I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am
pleased with you and I know you by name' (Exod. 33:17).
Was Moses content? No! He still pressed for more of God's answer and blessing. Then Moses said,
'Now show me your glory" (v. 18). "And the LORD said,
'I will . . . I will . . . I will . . . I will . . . I will . . . I will' "
(vv. 19-22).
Moses got his full hear-cry, his full answer, because he pressed his case with holy pleas and holy argument.
All of God's Word is for you—all His promises and all his truth. Use the Word in your praying; lovingly, humbly, but boldly hold God to His Word. The Word does not say beautiful, meaningless words.
You honor God when you take Him at His word. God is in earnest. The Holy Spirit is in earnest. You must be in earnest and go all out for God's answers.
7. Plead the blood of Jesus. Perhaps the greatest, most powerful, most unanswerable plea of all is the blood of Jesus. There is no more prevailing argument we can bring before God than the suffering, blood, and death of His son. We have no merit of our own.
We do not prevail by prayer techniques or past experience. There is no prayer "know-how" that prevails. It is only through the blood of Jesus.
Do you really understand that Jesus, the Son of God, shed His blood for you, me, and for our sinful world? Do you really understand how totally Satan was defeated once for all at the cross? Do you really understand the power of the plea of the blood of Jesus before God the Father?
Just as there is no higher name in heaven or earth than the name of Jesus (Phil 2:9-10), so there is no greater plea in heaven or earth than the blood of Jesus. It is the supreme evidence of the supreme love of the universe.
Plead the blood. Pray till you have the assurance of God's will. Pray till you have been given by the Spirit a vision of what God longs to do, needs to do, waits to do. Pray till you are gripped by the authority of the name of Jesus.
Then plead the blood of Jesus. The name of Jesus and the blood of Jesus—glory in them, stake your all on them, and use them to the glory of God and the routing of Satan.

#145 How to Plead Before God (5-7)
by Dr. Wesley L. Duewel
Prayer-
"Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm." Eph. 6:10–13 (ESV).
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (v. 4) Trust in the LORD for ever: for the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength." Is. 26:2, 3 (KJV).
"Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people." Ps. 77:14 KJV).
Today's quote-
Xochitl Dixon- "It's natural to prefer avoiding the bitter bites in life. We can even be tempted to lash out at God when we're hurting. But the Lord uses trials, teaching us how to trust Him, depend on Him, and surrender to Him as He enables us to persevere through difficult times. And like Job, we don't have to enjoy suffering to learn to savor the unexpected sweetness of sour moments—the divine strengthening of our faith."

"In the final days of Jesus’ life, he shared a meal with his friends Lazarus, Martha, and Mary.
Within the week he would feel the sting of the Roman whip, the point of the thorny crown, and the iron of the executioner’s nail.
But on this evening, he felt the love of three friends."
Today's question-
Do you downplay spiritual warfare by just trying to gain God's approval by doing what you think best? Are you guilty of twisting the Gospel to give you licence to sin?
True faith in Jesus Christ's shed blood of Atonement will/should bring some drastic changes in our behavior. Our obeying what His Word tells us is to bring about a reasonable "working out of our salvation" in our lives.
As we build up our faith with the help of the Holy Spirit, we keep foremost in mind that we're to serve God with an honest and repentant heart. We're challenged to keep the eternal perspective in mind, as we become more and more like Christ, to get ready for heaven. (From notes of a message by Bob Dale, 2/19/17. See Jude, verses 1-25)

Couple praying together |
Prayer-
Father, we give You praise for all that You've already done for us, and we're thankful that You've invested so much of your mercy and faithfulness in us.
Thank You for the examples of Your people who've found that pleading with You for their heart-felt needs is actually pleasing to You.
We are reminded of Moses, David and Jacob who pleaded for more of Your mercies and involvement in their situations.
As all of Your Word is for us—all of Your promises and truth, and are to be used in our praying, we lovingly, humbly and boldly hold You to Your Word.
So teach us your ways that we may know you better and continue to find favor in Your sight.
I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
