#21 Abiding in Christ

Andrew Murray - The object of this strengthening with might is that Christ dwell in the heart by faith. The divine power enables and emboldens our faith to claim this precious privilege.

The Spirit reveals Christ dwelling within us and gives the consciousness of His unceasing and omnipotent presence. (Google image,Happy Christians)

Just as God maintains the life of the body by supporting the heart in its action, the Holy Spirit, by His almighty power, strengthens our inner man daily to enable us to live the true spiritual life.

Christ's dwelling in the heart is meant to be our portion. In speaking of his conversion, Paul says, "It pleased God . . . to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen"
Galatians 1:15-16).

When he preached the unsearchable riches of Christ, he preached Him as dwelling in the heart. He would have none of his readers to be without it.

He continually pleaded with God to strengthen them with might in their inner life, so that nothing might keep them from this wonderful blessing.

It seems as if the Church has lost the understanding of the reality of Christ's indwelling. Yet Paul's teaching is in harmony with that of our blessed Lord. When Jesus spoke of the gift of the Holy Spirit, He said, "At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me and I in you" (John 14:20).

He goes on to add, "If a man love me, he will keep my word and my father will love him, and we will come unto him and make our abode with him" (John 14:23).

Our Lord speaks here of something far beyond the initial grace of pardon and regeneration. He speaks of what would be given to those who love him and keep His commandments—of a special gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling and working in them.

The blessing offered to us completes the spiritual life with the highest exhibition of what the mighty power of God can work in us.

Christ wants to dwell in the heart. Let us begin with urgent prayer for ourselves and for God's children around us. God will work according to the riches of His glory to lift us out of our feebleness and bring us into a new life that will be lived to His praise and glory.

When Jesus Christ is within us, we are rooted and grounded in love. We can begin to comprehend the reality and the joy of the love of Christ that passes knowledge.

This leads to being filled with the fullness of God. The Spirit of power fills the inner man, the presence of Christ fills the heart, and fullness of God fills all.

No wonder Paul says, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory" (Ephesians 3:20-21).

Faith in the promise of what the Father of glory will do, according to the riches of His glory, will teach us to worship saying, "Glory! Glory to Him forever and ever."

Let's pray-

Father, as we claim this privilege of Christ dwelling within us by faith, Your divine power enables and emboldens our faith to give us the consciousness of Your unceasing and omnipotent presence.
The apostle Paul preached the unsearchable riches of Christ dwelt in the hearts of the believers, and he didn't want any of them to be without it.
   He continually pleaded, to
strength them with might in their inner life, so that nothing might keep them from this wonderful blessing.
Jesus spoke of something far beyond the initial grace of pardon and regeneration when He spoke of what would be given to the believers who loved Him and who kept His commandmentsa special gift of the Holy Spirit to dwell in and with them.
This special blessing completes the spiritual life with the exhibition of what Your mighty power can work in and through us.
With Christ dwelling in our hearts, let's begin with urgent prayer for ourselves and those around us to allow Your Spirit to work in us; to lift us out of our feebleness and bring us into a new life to Your praise and glory.
We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen

Today's quote-

~  Oswald Chambers-The grace of God is absolute and limitless, and the work of salvation through Jesus is complete and finished forever. I am not being saved— I am saved. Salvation is as eternal as God’s throne, but I must put to work or use what God has placed within me. To “work out [my] own salvation” (Philippians 2:12) means that I am responsible for using what He has given me. It also means that I must exhibit in my own body the life of the Lord Jesus, not mysteriously or secretly, but openly and boldly. “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection . . .” (1 Corinthians 9:27)
Every Christian can have his body under absolute control for God. God has given us the responsibility to rule over all “the temple of the Holy Spirit,” including our thoughts and desires (1 Corinthians 6:19). We are responsible for these, and we must never give way to improper ones. But most of us are much more severe in our judgment of others than we are in judging ourselves. We make excuses for things in ourselves, while we condemn things in the lives of others simply because we are not naturally inclined to do them. From My Utmost for His Highest Updated Edition

Words of wisdom-

~ Because God's higher and greater than we are, He asks that we spend time with Him, so that His thoughts gradually form in our minds. He wants to bless us far more than we dare to ask.

~ Unlimited power is given to us, when the Lord's name is used properly. If we trust Jesus to fight our battles, we will know inexpressible Joy, as we await His return.
