THE MYSTERY OF SUFFERING

Roy Clark- "Life is marked be events of suffering, both great and small. Some are the byproduct of a natural disaster impacting entire communities with loss, grief, and sorrow. Others are the fruit of evil that has a profound effect on the world. (Google image,  Hurricane damage)

Still others are intensely private, affecting an individual person or a single family. In all these cases, a common thread is found—the struggle to understand suffering and why it happens.

The book of job describes the intense suffering of Job. If you read up to chapter 38, when God finally speaks, you expect some kind of definitive answer to the problem of human suffering. Instead, the story takes a sharp turn. God doesn't give answers; He just asks questions—science questions, in fact, covering the fields of zoology, astronomy, and meteorology, revealing His ultimate sovereignty over all creation.

Job stood before almighty God in dumbfounded silence. He wanted to know 'Why?' but God responded with 'Who.' The lesson for us is this: If God can run the universe in such a spectacular way, we can trust His love and wisdom with the inexpliciable and puzzling mysteries of life.

We don't know what God will do in the future for us or for our loved ones who are stuggling, but we know we can trust Him.

When you're facing the mystery of suffering, read the final chapters of Job beginning with chapter 38. God, the ultimate Comforter, can be trusted." (ODB Jan. '22) [Adapted from "When You Don't Know What to Say," by Roy Clark]

Let's pray-

Father, when we have events of suffering, whether great or small, help us to trust You to help us handle them. Some of the suffering comes from an entire community undergoing a devestating loss due from a Natural disaster.

Others are intensely private, affecting an individual or a single family. There is a common thread in them all—the struggle to understand "Why." When we look at Job's experience, and see him asking that question, we are surprised by what You answered him. You ask him science questions, in fact, covering the fields of zoology, astronomy, and meteorology, revealing You ultimate sovereignty over all creation.

We see that Job stood before You, the Almighty God in dumbfounded silence, (just as we would). The lesson for us is this: If You can be trusted to run the universe in such a spectacular way, then we can trust Your Love and wisdom with the inexpliciable and puzzing mysteries of life!

As we can't know what You will do in the future for us or our loved ones who are struggling, we are to trust You in and through it all! May this be our prayer in the name of Jesus. Amen.

 #2 Testimony-  Butch

"In 2009, I spent 10 days in a medically induced coma. I was in a fight for my life. The doctors said that I wouldn’t make it. The number one question I have been asked was if I could hear people when I was in the coma. Yes, I could. I tried every day to talk, but no one answered. It was a lonely feeling.

I asked God several very important questions, and all I heard was silence. Then, after I prayed, it seemed like they were taking me out of a coma. The nurse then answered my questions that I prayed inside the coma when I first got out. God heard me while I was in a deep coma and answered me through a perfect stranger when I got out of the coma.

That was a miracle. God does hear your prayers in whatever state you are in. I was supposed to die, but God had better plans. He wanted me to live so I could share this message with you today. God does hear your heart and will answer your prayers with His will. When I was supposed to die, God intervened, and I lived.

He wants to let you know how much He loves you and that He hears your prayers. When I was in a coma, I didn’t know what was going on, but I knew who to call. He is faithful and will always be with you through any situation. Call on Him today."

#2 Hymn-  Nearer, My God, To Thee

 Some encouraging words-

"To be little with God in prayer is to be little for God in service. Much secret prayer means much public power. Yet is it not a fact that whilst our organizing is well-nigh perfect, our agonizing in prayer is well-nigh lost? Men are wondering why the revival delays it'
s coming. There is only one thing that can delay it, and that is lack of prayer. All revivals have been the outcome of prayer . . . God wants us to pray, to be much in prayer because all success in spritual work is dependent on prayer."

Today's Recommended reading: CHAIR TIME, by Dan Southerland (Kindle only)

"We have over-complicated prayer! In its purest form, it is talking with and listening to God. Most of us have the talking part down. The listening part – not so much!

Chairtime is the story of learning to listen to God. It is a simple story of a simple man learning a life changing truth. God wants to speak to us! He will if we get in the chair!"
