#103 Maintaining the Intercessors

C. Peter Wagner shares
with us the importance of
maintaining our intercessors:

"In his concluding paragraph
of Ephesians 6, Paul provides
us with what I consider a model
of how we as leaders should
relate to our intercessors in order to maintain their interest and their faithfulness to do spiritual warfare on our behalf.

By this I do not mean to imply that their primary motivation is anything other than their desire to serve God and obey Him.

If God has called intercessors to pray for us, He will help maintain them. But I also think that, in His providence, God also gives us a role in keeping the relationship alive and well.

Paul sensed this, I believe, when he told them he was sending Tychicus to them. Back in those days before telephones, faxes and express mail, the preferred way to communicate was by personal messenger.

The messenger would often carry a letter, as Tychicus undoubtedly did in this case, but even the letter could not substitute for the personal words of the messenger.

What was Tychicus supposed to do when he met the intercessors? Two things:

Share information. 'That you may know our
   affairs' Eph. 6:22.

Share Paul's love and encouragement. 'Comfort your
   hearts' Eph. 6:22.

Personal prayer partners typically do not make high demands on the pastor they pray for. But they are extremely grateful if we provide for them the information they need to pray intelligently, and if we, from time to time, encourage them with words of appreciation for their ministry on our behalf."

Let’s pray:

   Father, when our pastor
needs us to support him in
prayer, may we be faithful
to remember him before the
Lord.

It's true, we do long for
encouragements from our leaders.

I ask that they realize that they have this responsibility, and our need to be kept informed of special events.

My pastors do appreciate my prayers, I'm sure. I want to please the Lord by supporting them faithfully. Help me honor Your calling for me to pray for them. It's in Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.

Today’s awesome Bible verse: Rom. 15:13 NCV "I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit."

Today’s quote: Karen Oglesby Sometimes it’s hard to keep praying for something over and over, sometimes for years, and not see your prayers come to fruition. It makes it even harder when others near you seem to be receiving the answers and blessings they are seeking. But God tells us to pray without ceasing. Not to pray until we get tired or think we’ve bothered Him with our petitions, but continually.”

Some thoughts today: Obey what God tells you, and leave the rest up to Him to deal with.

- God gives the gifts you need, when you need them. Trust Him.

- God's interested in restoration. Ask Him for a good way to handle a situation, so it will glorify Him.

#104 Pray for Your Intercessors

C. Peter Wagner shares with
us from his book, Prayer Shield:

"The relationship between
pastors and intercessors is
not a mutual relationship.

Receiving intercession is not like
borrowing money that has to be repaid.

Joshua won the battle because he received Moses'
intercession and returned very little if any.

The term I have used throughout this book, 'prayer partners,' has also been used by some as describing a reciprocal relationship.

'You pray for me and I'll pray for you.'

This is a very fruitful relationship. In the last chapter, I mentioned how Evelyn Christenson recommends it and how she needs at least one such relationship as an intercessor herself.

However, this is not the sense in which I have been using 'prayer partners' in this book.

If I tried to repay the prayer I receive from my prayer partners, I would do little other than pray. Attempting to do that would be just underattempting to repay Jesus for my redemption. Impossible!

So I have learned to receive their prayers as a gift of God's grace and their obedience.

All this does not mean that we should take our prayer partners for granted. I thank God for our prayer partners every day.

I keep a picture of each pasted inside the front cover of my Bible and I turn to the pictures and pray for each one by name. I do not usually spend a long time on each one, but I bring each before God's throne.

In the epistle to the Ephesians in which Paul asks for intercession, he also says,

'I...do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of
you in my prayers' Eph. 1:15,16. This is what I try to do also.

There are occasions where I do pray more for my prayer partners. I often pray when I know one of them is going through particularly difficult. I pray as well when they are part of an actual ministry involvement along with me.

[When in 1991, they were in Argentina for their first annual Harvest Evangelism International Institute] ..we all intensified our prayers for each other when we discovered that a group of Argentine witches and warlocks had set up an 'occult fair' in the same hotel we were using to claim the territory for Satan one week before and during the week of our institute.

Because of the intercessors, the witches' chants, incantations, curses and attempts at infiltration were effectively neutralized.

On the last day, the government
expelled them from the hotel for
illegally practicing divination, and a
local newspaper ran a cartoon
showing the witches flying out
of the hotel on a broomstick.

Shades of Ephesus!

We know well why Paul so greatly desired intercession."

Let’s pray:

   Father, we know that
prayers do help, so we ask
Your guidance in our praying
for those who are in leadership.

I'm glad to be a part of the
prayer team of my church, and
that my prayers really do count.

Help me to be sensitive to the needs at hand, and to pray faithfully alone, and with others.

I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse:  Ps. 92:4 "For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in thy works of thy hands."

Today’s quote: E. M. Bounds “Prayer should not be regarded ‘as a duty' which must be performed, but rather as a privilege to be enjoyed, a rare delight that is always revealing some new beauty.”

Some thoughts today: God gives you favor, but not for your favor, but so that doors will be opened to you to witness to His goodness.

- Temptations come to you, so you can be a witness of God's truth.

- Find that secret place in God and submit to Him. Obey His will for you. Jump in it! He wants you to have faith in Him.

Our God Reigns

From Word Ministries - "Does God have
freedom to reign in your life? He stands at
the door and knocks waiting for you to
open the door.

At your invitation He will come
to the table and eat with you.

Then you can take Him on a tour of your tri-level house. You are spirit, soul and body.

Your spirit is a partaker of the Father’s divine nature, but your soul is saved through the engrafted Word of God.

The sovereign Lord will walk with you through the corridors of your soul waiting for you to unlock the doors that protect emotional wounds, fears, self-centeredness, resentment and unforgiveness.

As you open each door He heals all your diseases and forgives all your iniquities. Give Him permission to take control.

He will bind up and heal your brokenness, and you will discover that you are complete in Him.

Prophesy and declare over yourself: My God reigns! The choice is yours.

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, You are the Lord of my life. You made my spirit the candle of the Lord that searches out my innermost being, and I submit to the Holy Spirit who searches my heart and He knows Your will for my life.

Everything is exposed to your Word, and I submit to the constant ministry of transformation by the Holy Spirit. Thank You for healing all my hurts, fulfilling all my needs and for helping me process and resolve all issues perfectly with the Word of God.

I choose this day to submit to your Lordship and declare with confidence: My God reigns over my life! Amen."

Parenting in the Early Years: Be In Charge

By JillSavage on Jul 14, 2014 09:55 am
Landon"Mark and I have the joy of having 2 or our 3 grandkids all this week while Mom and Dad take their church youth group to a week-long youth conference.
I’m knee-deep in diaper, sippy cups, and cutting up food at mealtime.  Because of the age range of my five kids, we had a preschooler in our home for 17 straight years.  I can tell you that even though it’s not a part of my everyday now, Mark and I have slipped right back into the rhythms and routines of the preschool years.
This week I’ll be sharing strategies for parenting in the early years.  Today’s strategy is: BE IN CHARGE.
Have you ever played pinball?  You shoot the ball into the pinball machine and it is bounced around from boundary to boundary.  Parenting preschoolers is very similar. Our little ones are looking for their boundaries..."
(I hope you'll check out Jill's post today, as she gives some valuable advice.)

Let’s pray:

   F
ather, I ask for Your help to discern what
is Your will for my life.

I do know You love me, and that You have a good plan for me.

I open up my heart to You, to show me my needs, so You can bring the healing necessary for me to be whole.

I ask for the confidence that You are reigning in my life, and that You'll guide me.

May Jesus be glorified in and through me. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Is. 53:4-6 NIV  v6 "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his woulds we are healed."

Today’s quote: Jill Savage – “Children learn from watching us—for good or for bad. We must model the virtues we want to instill. If we don’t, the exact opposite will occur. If they watch us enough times, we will be watching them lose their patience for hundreds of days to come, and that will bring much sorrow.”

Some thoughts today: It's been said that many people have knowledge, but do not know how to use it wisely. For instance, something is said at the wrong time. Prov. 15:2 tells us that "the tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness."

- Don't curse yourself! Speak affirming, encouraging words instead. Speak what you want to be, not what has been. Let the past be just that--the past. Desire better attitudes and circumstances for yourself.

- Allow God's Spirit to help you.

Are You Protected?

Jean Oathout  shares with
us some thoughts that
hopefully will get us thinking.

What is it that your hope is grounded in?

Is it something practical, like a bank account?

How about your emotions? Are they in control?

Do you face every day living with confidence?

Will you have the right answers when you die and are faced with the question as to how you've spent your life?

What is it you place as your shield? Will it be satisfactory when hard times come, as surely they will?

What thoughts do you have about your future? Where will your protection be, and will it prove enough to actually protect you and help you go through whatever you'll face?

Consider the following as good advice from ©2014 Word Ministries, Inc. :

"Jesus said: "If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your heart, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you." John 15:7

What a wonderful promise. If your thoughts, actions and habits are controlled by the Word of God, you will know that in spite of circumstances all is well.

Each and every day take time to pray Scriptural prayers, meditate and read your Bible. You can have complete assurance and boldness before God if you keep His commandments and habitually practice what is pleasing to him.

Believe in and rely on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He has commanded us. 1 John 3:20-24

Regardless of circumstances you can rest assured – all is well.

PRAYER:

Father, I acknowledge and take to heart this day that the Lord is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other.

Empowered by Your Spirit, I purpose to keep Your decrees and commands, which You have given me, so that it may go well with me and my children after me, and that I may live long in the land the Lord my God gives me for all time.

To the glory of God the Father, I acknowledge that Jesus is Lord of my home, ministry and the work place. Jesus is Lord of my life! Amen."

Today’s promise:  Ps. 91:1-2 NCV "Those who go to God Most high for safety will be  protected by the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, 'You are my place of safety and protection. You are my God and I trust you.' "

Today’s quote: Poh Fang Chia - "Our peace comes from the confidence that the Lord loves us and He is in control. He alone provides the comfort that settles our nerves, fills our minds with hope, and allows us to relax even in the midst of changes and challenges."

Some thoughts today: The Bible tells us to have confidence in God's plan for us. 2 Kings 4:8-10 shows us how God provided for Elisha. In Ps. 4:8, David said, "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me to dwell in safety."

- If God says someone is great, that will last for eternity. Do you need to be great in the eyes of men, or of God?

- God can take what is broken and unclean in you, and make you a treasure. Yes, there will be storms, but God is at hand.

Are YOU listening?

Tammie Johnson shares: "feel the Lord called me to
rise at 2:30 am today, to speak with me of the end times.

He reminded me of what the Bible says will happen to people who come against him and his people.

We must try and help save the lost, and lead them to Christ.

The end is not pretty or happy. It will be very ugly for the lost souls of this world.

We, as Gods chosen, must lead souls to the Lord. We must not sit back and do nothing.

A lot of us as Christians are so busy in our own lives
that we don't take the time to teach of God, and to
help the lost find their way to Him.

How can we not hear
God calling us to teach
people of Him, and of
His waysHow can we
not hear God, and turn
our backs when He speaks?

We may not be sinning at the moment in our lives, but we are not listening either.

God is saying,

"Teach them, teach them of me.The end is near!"

Are you a Christian who
hears the Master's voice?

Or are you too busy to hear
the Father calling you?

"The End, the End is Near!"

Don't let a moment go by that you aren't listening to the Father and doing what you can to lead people to Him. Lead them to salvation and eternal life!

God desires that none should perish.

Those that have ears; let them hear!
Those that have eyes; let them see!

He is calling, He is calling us all!

He needs us to spread the good news:

Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us
from our sin, to give us His Life, and to give us
   health and healing.

We need to tell folks how
much God loves them. Can
you hear Him?

Can you hear God calling
your name? I hope you can!

If you can't, please listen to your heart. He will speak to you there, if only you will listen.

Are YOU Listening? by Tammie Johnson

(Used by permission. Google images added)

Let’s pray:

   Father, help us hear Your
call for us to speak the truth:

Jesus is not only Real, but He
desires to save folks from their
sins.

   Healing, as well as salvation,
is to be found in His Name.

May we have ears to hear, so
we'll listen to Your gentle voice,
urging us to tell others about You.

Thank You, that You hear my prayer today. I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Ps. 12:1 Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men."

Today’s quote: Bill Crowder – “When fear is overwhelming, the Lord is there. His comforting presence will carry us through our deepest trials.”

Some thoughts today: Words of wisdom solve disputes, problems, and quandaries, and they bring unanimity (harmony).

- The gift of the word of wisdom is a supernatural revelation of the divine purposes of God. It is a divine communication, a message to the church from God, given by the Holy Spirit through a believer.

- Spiritual wisdom is different then the word's wisdom. (These thoughts were taken from notes of Alan Daniels's class on understanding spiritual gifts.)
