#7 Evicting the Ruler of Adrogue'

C. Peter Wagner tells us,
The upper-middle-class suburb
of Buenos Aires called Adrogue'
had experienced little effective
evangelism.

Many had tried, but none had succeeded. Most of the Protestant churches planted in Adrogue' had struggled and then closed their doors.

It was a graveyard of church planters. One of the survivors was a Baptist church, which after 70 years of attempting to evangelize Adrogue' counted only 70 members.

More disturbing yet, virtually none of the 70 members were residents of Adrogue' proper. No one could remember a single resident of Adrogue' being converted.

Pastor Eduardo Lorenzo accepted a call to the church in 1974. He was a dynamic leader who applied church growth principles and in 13 years, to 1987, the church had grown from 70 to 250. Still few of the members lived in Adrogue'.

In 1987 a growth surge began. When I visited the church in 1990, it had passed the 600 mark and they had constructed a new auditorium that could accommodate 2,000.

By mid-1991 more than 1,000 attended. Eduardo Lorenzo said to me,

"If we do not make 2,000 members by 1993, it will be
     because we are not trying!"

What happened in 1987? How die mediocre evangelism become effective evangelism?

The answer was the frontline application of strategic-level spiritual warfare. This did not come about quickly or easily.

Eduardo Lorenzo, like may of us, had not been trained in spiritual warfare of any kind. Some of his seminary professors considered dealing with the demonic something those Pentecostals might do, but off-limits for respectable Baptists.

Coming from this background, it took Lorenzo several years to get to the root of the evangelistic difficulties in Adrogue' and begin to understand the spiritual dimensions of the issue.

Warfare Prayer

#7 Evicting the Ruler of Adrogue'
By C. Peter Wagner
(pgs. 20, 21) Regal Books

Prayer for your pastor: "Holiness. Jesus, keep my pastor holy in every way. Protect _________ from seducing spirits, especially when he/she is tired and hard-pressed. Provide friends to help protect my pastor and to walk with him/her in personal holiness (Peter. 1:16).  (Scripture-Based Prayers to Pray for your Pastor by Terry Teykl)

L
et’s pray:

Father, it is my desire to better
understand my position in prayer.

Open my eyes to the things You
desire to show me in spiritual warfare.

May I be open to Your Holy Spirit's urging in this matter, as I believe You want me to be in the frontline spiritual warfare in my own community.

I'm willing to be taught about this, so please help me understand what it is I'm to do to further Your Kingdom locally.

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: Matt. 21:22 "And all things; whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive."

Today’s quote: Charles Caleb Colton Those that are the loudest in their threats are the weakest in their actions.”

Some thoughts today: We misunderstand our need to share our problems. We need to share our burdens with others, but the goal is that our mouths be a fountain of blessing to ourselves and others.

- Curses are declarations over someone that is contrary to the plan and purpose of God.

- Become agents of grace. Partner with God in affirmation about something or some one.

First, you need to ask God to help you.
