How to Have the Best Date of Your Life

Toni Campbell was asked by a friend: Why don’t you plan your date with God today?
What about time with God? If you’re empty, you can’t pour yourself into others.”
She made me pull out my calendar.
“I want you to “X” out three days in the next few months.”
    “Because…why?”

    “You’re going on a date!”

“First you say spend more time with God, now you’re
filling my calendar with dates?”
“The date is WITH God. A whole day together…no electronics.”
I started to argue that we spend every day together. As a believer, the Holy Spirit lives in me, always present…but I knew the truth. I am not always present. Not always engaged.
I needed to spend an intentional day with God.
Be intentional. Whether it’s an hour or a full day, mark it on your calendar. Guard that time against “to-do’s.”
Find a friend willing to take the kids for a few hours (offer to do the same for her) – and don’t use the time to clean the house. Dust bunnies can wait!
Take a vacation day if a Saturday isn’t possible.
Start small. A lunch hour spent with God in your car can do wonders. Just start.
Find a quiet place. A park. Your room. God will meet you wherever you are.
Don’t know what to say on your date with God?
  • Start by acknowledging who He is. Praise Him.
  • What is weighing heavy on your heart? Confess it.
  • What are you grateful for? Thank Him.
  • What requests do you have for yourself and others? Ask Him.
  • And always, always, always, take time to be silent and listen to what He speaks to your heart.
I guarantee, a date with God will be your best date ever!

Let’s pray:

   Father,You've made it clear that
You desire us to come aside a while
to meet with You, so help us make it
a regular habit.

    Toni has guaranteed that our
meeting with you is going to prove
the best thing we've done to improve
our ability to hear Your thoughts.

My heart is opened to You, and I ask that You draw me aside each day for this special time with You.

   In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today’s Bible verse: John 15:13 "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Today’s quote:  Jennifer Benson Schuldt - "You have a genuine friend in Jesus if you have accepted His offer of salvation — a friend who is always loyal; one who lifts you when you stumble. He has shown you the greatest love one friend can have for another — love that led Him to sacrifice his life for you." (John 15:13)

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer! — Scriven

Jesus is your most trusted Friend."

Our thoughts for today: Sometimes we need to remain quiet until we've prayed for wisdom. Using Scripture to pray for someone or situation, is always a good idea.

- We are all different "paintings" of the Lord. Be patient with your friends, and trust God for the wisdom you'll need. Pray, believe, and see what He can do to bring the changes necessary for imperfect people.

- Read Ps. 91 for encouragement. You're "under the shadow of His wings."

1. Jesus, keep me near the cross; there a precious fountain, free to all, a healing stream, flows from Calvary's mountain.
