#122 A Glorious Finale

C. Peter Wagner: "Then God gave Elijah a glorious finale:

  • He anointed a new king,
  • He identified his replacement, Elisha,
  • Elijah was taken to heaven in a chariot of fire. And, along with Moses, he was one of two people from the past chosen to join Jesus on the Mount of Transfiguration! What a reward for the faithful warrior!
But where does warfare prayer enter this picture? Nothing in 1 Kings says that Elijah prayed.

God did not want to leave us wondering whether Elijah prayed or not. Through James He informs us that Elijah's major spiritual weapon was the same as ours: warfare prayer.

'Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and He
prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did
not rain on the land for three years and six months.
And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and
the earth produced its fruit' (Jas. 5:17, 18).

In what context does James mention this prayer, which we know to be warfare prayer from 1 Kings? James uses it as an illustration of the principle: 'The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much' (Jas. 5:16).

This biblical illustration shows that God has been and is calling His people to warfare prayer.

'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says
to the churches' (Rev. 2:7).' "

[A new series on prayer begins the 22nd, and will be from
the book, Mighty Prevailing Prayer, by Wesley L. Duewell.]

Today’s Bible verse: Ecc. 7:8 "Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit."

Today’s quote: Julie Ackerman Link - "How much more meaningful our celebrations of Christ's birth would be if we would give up our faulty concept of perfection, then focus instead on the perfection of our Savior, in whom we are made righteous (Rom. 3:22).

If your Christmas celebration this year is less than ideal, relax and let it be a reminder that the only way to be 'made perfect forever' (Heb. 10:14) is to live by faith in the righteousness of Christ.' "

Some thoughts today: Praise is for those who're recognized for their attributes and accomplishments. They are praise-worthy.

Worship is for God alone. His attributes and awesome accomplishments  are worthy of all our worship. He's the One who holds everything together, longs for our fellowship, and looks for ways to bless those who are His through faith in His Son, Christ Jesus.

~ The Holy Spirit will help us honor God through our praise and worship times, both at home and in various services, when we've gathered together to hear more about Him. Together we celebrate what God has done.

Thank you for your prayers for my trip to the hospital! Nothing was found to cause the pains I experienced Tuesday morning! Some meds were prescribed for my doctor to consider for preventive measures...that's all! I'm thankful for the extension of life so I can serve the Mighty God through this ministry!

Father, when we consider how fragile life really is, may we humbly come to You for guidance and protection in doing Your will.
Whatever it is You've planned for each of us, may we see Your Hand in and through it all, and give You the honor and praise.
May our lives reflect Your grace in all we undertake to do, and may You be pleased with the way we respond to Your leading, corrections and enablement to be a blessing to others.
I ask this in Jesus' Name. Amen.
