Dr. Wesley L. Duewel How to develop prayer passion:
1. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you his love, passion, and zeal.
2. Welcome and cherish...
any drawing of the Spirit to prayer. Bounds assures us,
"It is not in our power, perhaps, to create fervency
of spirit at will, but we can pray God to implant it.
It is ours, then, to nourish and cherish it, to guard
it against extinction, to prevent its abatement or
decline." ( Necessity of Prayer, p. 59).
3. Read and reread Scripture accounts or accounts in deeply spiritual books of how God has called people to prayer and answered their prayer.
4. Keep deepening your own prayer life by faithfulness in your prayer habits and prayer commitments.
5. Take several major prayer concerns or burdens on your heart and make them the special focus of your prayer; for example, continuing prayer for revival, your church, your nation, youth ministry, prison ministry, ministry in Communist lands, ministry in Muslim lands.
The burdens may include such special needs as pornography, drugs, child abuse, or AIDS. They may include a particular nation—India, China, Indonesia, Cuba, or another one God places on your heart.
They may include radio ministry, TV ministry, or international or national ministries such as those of Billy Graham, Luis Palau, or Focus on the Family.
You cannot pray at length for everything, but you can ask God to guide you to several special prayer concerns.
6. Keep a listening ear for any special prayer assignments that God may give you as a temporary urgent prayer burden. There may be special need on a particular day or hour for your prayer.
As far as possible, go to prayer for that need immediately. Use every free moment possible until God lifts from your heart the prayer concern to pray for this need. Your prayer passion will be greatly increased as you obey this call from the Spirit.
Let us summarize in the words of Bounds:
"Prayers must be red hot. It is the fervent prayer that
is effective....It takes fire to make prayers go. Warmth
of soul creates an atmosphere favorable to prayer....
By flame prayer ascends to heaven. Yet fire is not fuss,
not heat, noise....To be absorbed in God's will, to be so
greatly in earnest about doing it that our whole being
takes fire, is the qualifying condition of the man who
would engage in effectual prayer." ( Necessity of Prayer,
p. 56).

Father, help us be so absorbed in what Your Spirit directs, that we become earnest about doing Your will with our whole being.
May we pray with holy fire, so we'll engage in actual effectual prayer, whether it is a short-term prayer need, or on-going ones You've placed on our hearts.
Our prayer is that You guide us in our praying, so we'll be pleasing in Your sight, and ready to speak up for others' needs.
I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Today’s Bible verse-
(Ps. 62:8 KJV) "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah."
(Ps. 62:8 CEV) "Trust God, my friends, and always tell him each one of your concerns. God is our place of safety."
Today’s quote-
"At some phase in each of our lives, we all will be confronted with the impurities of our hearts. The Holy Spirit reveals our sinfulness, not to condemn us but to establish humility and deepen the knowledge of our personal need for grace." (Adapted from Francis Frangipane's book, Holiness, Truth and the Presence of God.)
Our Thought today-
We need more than a good idea. Encounter the Holy Spirit! Seek His help. Ask Him to show Himself to you!
Our question today-
Will others be able to tell of your faith because of your speech and actions? Is God able to work in your life to bring the transformation He desires to make you ready for heaven, as well as to use you in his Kingdom's work now?
