Why Make Him Lord?

Jean Oathout: When we give our hearts to the Lord Jesus to be saved and forgiven from all our sins, it's important that we know He desires to be lord of our lives.

Most folks do not understand what this principle involves, so let's discuss it further today. (Worshipping God, Google image)

When someone "lords it over someone", it shows that they are in control of them, and everything they say, think, do or don't do. With the wrong person, this can be devastating.

The Lord Jesus loved us so much that He was willing to live and die for us, and to be raised again from the grave, where He left the sins of everyone who would believe and receive His Salvation.

Is this not reason enough for Christians to trust Him with their lives? He wants to be lord of our lives so He can help us walk out His plan for us, as is promised in Jer. 29:11.

What that will be is determined by the abilities, talents, and the availability to His directions, infilling of His Holy Spirit and in our determination to do obey Him.

If you're a plummer, electrition, mechanic, hair stylist, cook, office worker, parent, grandparent, or ______, what you do to resist the evil one each day will depend upon the time spent alone each day with God, and reading His Word.

We're to get full of His love and Spirit so we can resist Satan's evil thoughts and planned attacks to steal, kill and destroy us (John 10:10).

It is time that we examine our habits to see if there are some that displease the Lord. Consider the following: What do you do? What constitutes your everyday speech? Do you care about your appearance? And where is it you choose to go? And why?

See if the Spirit has something to say about any of them. Be sure to address whatever comes to mind, as He wants to help you become like Jesus, as much as you'll allow.

Below are quotes that may help you better understand what it is God's after to bless you and to bring honor to Him as your Savior. If you haven't yet surrendered your life and heart to Him, please do so now, confessing your sins in true repentance, and give Him your past.

If you'll give it all to Jesus and rest in His saving ability, He'll remove and cleanse you from sin. Water baptism completes this, as your sins are "washed away" (Acts 2:38; 22:16).

Seek and find a Bible-believing Church to attend, and earnestly desire God's guidance there. If you're not sensing it's where you will be fed God's Word, attend others until you feel "at home", but don't give up! You'll need the fellowship, challenging messages, as well as the encouragements from mature believers.

Today's quotes-

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- "When He [the Holy Spirit] fills us, that is, takes complete lordship in our lives, He cleanses and gives us power to be victorious in our Christian living. As the gospel song states, 'His power can make you what you ought to be.'

But in the service of God, indeed, in dynamic Christian living of the Spirit-filled life, you need new infillings, new empowerings, new anointings, new outpouorings of the Spirit from time to time.

When the Holy Spirit fills us He imparts purity and power. The person who dedicates his all as a living sacrifice [Rom. 12:1] in absolute surrender (the term Andrew Murray loved to use) and asks for and trusts for the Spirit's infilling is given a new dimension of spiritual life.

The Holy Spirit cleanses and makes one pure in the inner person to a degree he never knew before, and in the same moment fills with a divinely greater power."
[Taken from pp. 74 and 83 of Duewel's book, ABLAZE FOR GOD]

Today's Bible verses-

(James 4:7, 8 KJV) "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (v. 8) Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double-minded."

(2 Cor. 3:17 KJV) "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

(Phil. 2:5 KJV) "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."

Let's pray-

Father, it is a sure thing that we're in need of Your Spirit's guidance, as we make mistakes everyday, when it comes to being perfect in Your sight.
As The Holy Spirit cleanses and makes us pure in our inner person to a degree we never knew before, may we become desperate for His help daily.
Draw us to an alone place, early in the day when possible, with expectancy that You'll meet us there, to strengthen us through the messages found in the Bible.

We agree with this prayer, and ask it in Jesus' name, to His glory. Amen.

We need a religious awakening that will expose the bitter, devilish, evil of sin. But how may we have such a religious awakening?..

"God's Presence you can know right here
And His love you can feel.
It may sometimes bring on a tear
As with you He will deal

Invite Him in to be in charge
And surrender your life.
His love will prove to be quite large
To help you as a wife."
