Lisa Buffaloe: He stood rigid, little fists clenched tight, face scrunched in disgust and shock – how dare his mommy want the bug.
It was his! He had found it all by himself as he crawled on the patio, and that slimy critter just begged to be in his mouth. Fortunately, after a strong-willed battle, little Johnny’s mom was able to wrestle the creepy-crawly from the toddler’s hands. [Google image Baby crying] Have you ever tried to get something from a small child they shouldn’t have? Perhaps they pick up something harmful, or maybe they have something you want them to release so you can give them something better. Goodness, little hands can be very, very strong when the will is strong. I am often just like that little boy, I clench something tight thinking it’s what I need or must have, and I don’t want to let go. I’ve battled with God for years over some things I honestly thought were good things. However, I’m finding that even if the things are “good” in our eyes, it doesn’t mean it’s the best. God doesn’t want only the good, He wants the best. God knows us, completely knows us. He knows the past, present, and future. When God beckons us to let go, He is offering freedom. If what we are holding in our hands, or hearts, is blocking His best, we need to let go to receive His best. Amazing freedom comes when we release everything to God. When our hands (and hearts) are fully open to God, we are blessed with the bountiful blessings of God. I want to let go of anything that isn’t God’s best. Heavenly Father, pry open my fingers and pry open my heart to be fully and completely open to You. Help me to let go to receive Your perfect will and Your perfect best.
lisabuffaloe.com- "Be encouraged and excited about this New Year.
No matter what tomorrow holds, God is already there. You never have to walk through anything alone. God is with you.
With God all things are possible. God grants strength, love, hope, joy, comfort, peace, and will meet every need. God is new beginnings! Happy New Year, friends! Happy NEW Year!!"
Apostle Paul- "So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your every-day, ordinary life — your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life — and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize that what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you." (Romans 12:1-2 The Message Bible )
Let's pray-
Father, when there are times You beckon us to let go of something, may we understand that You're offering freedom from it. It may very well be something we're holding in our hearts, blocking Your best for us. As we want to receive Your best for us, open our eyes to what You're trying to accomplish through letting go of something we may cherish, but that really isn't good for us to keep. Instead, help us fix our attention on you, so You can change us from the inside out, bringing us some clearer understanding of Your love for us. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Today's Bible verses-
“Open up before God, keep nothing back; he’ll do whatever needs to be done.” ~ Ps. 37:5 MSG “Those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” ~ Isaiah 40:31 (NASB) “Do not remember the former things, or ponder the things of the past. Listen carefully, I am about to do a new thing, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of it? I will even put a road in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert.” ~ Isaiah 43:18-19 (AMP)
Today's quote-
Sharon Jaynes- "Sometimes I don’t see God in difficult situations, but I still can praise Him because I know He is there. Gratitude changes the lens through which we see the circumstances in our little slice of time. Thanksgiving changes our perspective despite shattered dreams, broken relationships, and heart-rending circumstances. It changes our perspective in the accumulation of little nuisances in just plain old every day life.
Gratitude is one of the most significant aspects of our relationship with God. Looking back on all the ways God has blessed you will steady your feet in shaky times, no matter what you’re going through. As you praise God for who He is and thank Him for what He’s done, your perspective of Him grows larger and your problems grow smaller.
