#128 Accept and Adopt the Warrior Spirit

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: (2). Accept and adopt the warrior spirit. Victory depends on the warrior spirit. The Goliaths of our day are commissioned by Satan to challenge us as followers of Christ.

Become like David, a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22). God loved and honored David's warrior spirit. (Google image, Prayer Warrior).

Like David, challenge your Goliaths. David could hardly wait for the battle with Goliath. He had learned the warrior spirit from encounters that God had permitted with the lion and the bear.

He could not be God's man as king of God's people unless he had the warrior spirit. You cannot be God's person with anything less than a militant spirit of prayer.

God is expecting you to be so militant that you attack Satan's territory, demolish his arguments, confront any opposition, and destroy it by spiritual weapons. Prayer can give to you a spirit of militancy.

Prayer puts aggressiveness in your inmost nature. You burn with the fire of holy desire to expose the falsehoods of Satan, thrust aside the mountains Satan has thrown up against God's will and progress and free all satan's captives.

As a prayer warrior you breathe the righteous indignation of God. You are aflame with holy determination and the Spirit's power to overthrow all opposing powers and clear the way for the conquering Christ. You are not foolishly rash or presumptive. You are militant.

God's honor is at stake. God's will is being thwarted. Jesus' name is being questioned and dishonored. Like David, be willing to lay your life on the line for God. Like Paul, challenge the power of darkness in the name of Jesus. God needs victories. God's victories are won by prayer battles. The Holy Spirit wants to give you the warrior spirit and make you part of His holy payer "Marine corps."

3). Stand against Satan. The New English Bible translates James 4:7, "Stand up to the devil and he will turn and run." Barclay translates the verb, "Take a stand against." The Greek literally says "oppose." This is a command. You do not defeat Satan by passively "looking to the Lord."

In certain situations when Satan wants to harm you, the Lord shields and protects you. He has promised to do so, and his angels are always available to help you. But God also requires you to take a stand against Satan, to stand on the battlefield and fight.

The command to take a stand against Satan, to resist and oppose him, is as much a command as the command to witness or to preach the gospel. Our world is a battleground. We are to be warriors for Christ.

Calvary was planned by God not only to deliver us from our sins but to empower us so that we can defeat Satan. Jesus defeated Satan at Calvary and depends on us now to enforce His victory by prayer warfare.

You are to stand up against Satan, to take your stand by prayer. Satan is the intruder. He had no authority, and compared to God, he has few resources. He loves to roar like a lion, but in many respects he is chained. He cannot go beyond the limits God sets.

Paul says you are to stand "without being frightened in any way" (Phil. 1:28).  Stand on the character of God, on His power and faithfulness. Stand on God's inherent right as Creator and Owner of the universe. Stand on His right as victor over Satan at Calvary.

You have no alternative to battle! You have no acceptable alternative to victory in Jesus' name! You are committed to oppose Satan and triumph in Christ. Nothing less is worthy of God. No compromise on this point is safe.

The starting point to prayer battle is to stand.

"Take you stand....Put on the full armor of God, so that....
you may be able to stand your ground. Stand firm then"
     (Eph. 6:11-14).

#128 Accept and Adopt the Warrior Spirit
by Dr. Wesley L. Duewel

(pp.241 - 243) Zondervan

Prayer-

Father, help us remember that the victory depends on our having a warrior spirit.
Put aggressiveness in our inmost nature when we pray, and cause us to burn with Your holy desire to expose Satan and his plans to kill, steal and destroy Your people and Christ's kingdom. Help us appose his powers and clear the way for our conquering Christ.  May we not be foolish or presumptive, to think we're doing warfare on our own, but to be militant in Your power within us.
I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Today's Bible verses-

(Col. 4:2 ESV) "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful."
(John 15:7 KJV) "If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you."

Today's quote-

~ Quin Sherrer- "Unforgiveness not only hinders our prayers from being answered, it is the one thing that chains us to the person or situation. When we are dealing with an intractable problem in our hearts, it's a good time to realize that only God's Spirit can shape us and make us into men and women who are both healed and holy. All we have to do is invite him to do so." (Taken from p. 79 of her book, Miracles Happen When You Pray

By Stacy L. Sanchez

"Sometimes, God's blessings come
packaged in ways that cause us to
question His heart or wonder what
good could possibly be hidden inside..."

  1. Great reminder that we need to be on guard for Satan and his devious ways. Also that Satan cannot defeat us when we have Jesus by our side.
