#129 Plan and Take the Offensive

Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: (4). The battle order of Churchill to Lord Mountbatten in World War II was, "You are to plan for the offensive. In your headquarters you will never think defensively."

You are born again for battle and victory. Christ's orders to you are to press for victory. (Google image, Born for Battle).

Prayer is not a child's toy. It is not a weapon for recreational hunting, not even merely for self-defense.  Prayer, prevailing
prayer, is a mighty weapon for all our spiritual warfare against Satan. It is heavy artillery for offensive action against Satan. It is God's provision for conquest.

   Arthur Mathews has written,

"In any situation where Satan dominates and threatens,
God looks for a man through whom He may declare war
on the enemy. He purposes that through that man Satan
be served notice to back up, pack up, and clear out."
[Mathews, Born for Battle, p. 62, pictured above].

Scripture clearly expects us to have a militant spirit and attack strongholds of Satan.

"The weapons we fight with...have divine power to
demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and
every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge
of God, and we take captive every thought to make it
obedient to Christ" (2 Cor. 10:4-5).

Take the shield of faith. Take the sword of the Spirit. Pray militantly. Demonstrate your being armed for war and your plan for victory. Stop bemoaning Satan's attacks! Stop all futile consideration of alternatives to conquest!

A church fails God if it does not arm its believers with the attitude of faith and the skills of prayer warfare. We must plan for victory, arm for victory, train for victory, and launch an offensive for victory.

Take the initiative of faith. Not only be on the offensive for God, be alert to take the initiative of faith. God has planned the initiative to be in our hands. He has made full provision for prayer-victory, but we must do the prevailing.

He has provided promises adequate for anything in accordance with His will, but we must claim the promise and exercise the faith.

On the battlefield the greatest enemy to overcome is fear. God has armed us for spiritual war, but unused weapons win no wars. We must be alert for every opportunity to take the initiative for God.

Faith is not passive, and prayer is not neutral. faith and prayer are God's super weapons for his children. The sword of the Spirit is to be used on every possible occasion. God calls for the action of faith.

Prayer initiative—faith initiative exercised in prevailing prayer—can win any battle that is for Christ's glory and in accord with God's will. Satan occupies many strategic positions by our default.

Not to use the mighty weapons of prayer and faith when Satan is so illegitimately staking his claims, so vulnerable to our attack, and so certain of ultimate defeat would be serious dereliction of our spiritual responsibility and duty.

Victory comes only as we will to use the weapons God has provided. There is nothing automatic in spiritual victory, but

"When God sees a weapon being used in His name and
faith daring to attempt the impossible, He musters
heaven's cohorts and moves in to confound and rout
the enemy." [Mathews, Born for Battle, p. 57]

Gospel advance is constantly impeded through prayerlessness and lack of spiritual militancy on the part of God's children. "Forward on Your Knees" should be the watch- cry of all believers.

Prayer-

Father, may my church not fail to arm our believers with the attitude of faith and the skills of prayer warfare.
As we must plan for victory, train for victory and launch an offensive for victory, may we make this our declaration!
When You see weapons being used in Christ's name, and faith daring enough to attempt the impossible, we know we have Your attention.
Help us overcome fear, knowing that You will arm us for the spiritual war we face, and make us alert for every opportunity You give to take the initiative for victory over the enemy.
I pray this in the mighty name of Your Son, Jesus, Who gave His life for us, and Who is with us to overcome our spiritual warfare daily. Amen.

Today's Bible verses-

Is. 41:10 (KJV) "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Eph. 6:7 (NLT) "Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

Eph. 6:24 (KJV) Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

Today's quote-

Lawrence Darman- “A time with God is an important moment when we engage the Almighty. God comes near to us as we draw near to Him in a mutual involvement
(James 4:8). He assured us, “I am with you always” (Matt. 28:20). Our heavenly Father is always waiting for us to come to Him, always ready to listen to us. There are times when we struggle to pray because we feel tired, sleepy, sick, and weak. But Jesus sympathizes with us when we are weak or face temptations (Heb. 4:15). Therefore we can “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (v. 16).

Today's questions-

What is the main thing in your life? If you're a professing Christian, do you keep Bible truth central in all you think, say and do?

What God's looking for in us, is to keep His Word by acting in ways that honor Him. When it comes down to it, do we serve others as Christ did? It will be our way of demonstrating our love for Him. He promises us His grace to be always with us! (Psalms 94:14; Is. 41:10)
