#49 You will be Accountable for Your Sleeplessness as a Watchman
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- A sleepy watchman is a danger. The last thing he dare do is to sleep. A soldier on guard who goes to sleep can be sentenced to death. Why? He is a danger to everyone in the army.
You as a leader are a spiritual guard for your people. It is spiritually dangerous for your people for you to become spiritually drowsy. Guard duty is no laughing matter. It is a solemn responsibility to a leader. (Google image, Sleeping soldier)

Things That Make Me Happy
thoughts for us to consider:
It does seem, that when we obey the Lord's promptings, He brings other blessings we need, too.
The following are a few things I'm thankful for, that make me happy:
#1 Recently, a friend mentioned her new cleaning schedule, and as I was interested, I inquired what it was.
She had been advised to plan a certain chore for each day in the week, thus dividing it up into easier, more manageable ways to keep her house clean and neat.
My dad died when I was six, so my mother had to work five days a week. I learned from her to clean when company was expected. Otherwise, things just mounted until time was made to do something about it.
I find that that habit has been a burdensome way for me to follow.
I've begun delegating a main chore for most days, and what a difference it has made! I think the Lord has used it to free me up in other ways.
Now, for example, I look forward to different challenges in getting projects clean instead of dreading them. I'm sensing a joy, but can't explain it. I'm thankful to be able to enjoy my home more.
I'm also finding a willingness to pitch things I now find I'm tired of saving, and don't see a need of. When I look for something in particular, I take time to clean as I go, (I actually discovered some money in a drawer which I'd forgotten about. It will come in handy for a dentist bill coming up!)
I notice drawers that I haven't investigated for probably years, that I have no idea their contents...more projects that will be waiting.
I'm finding that every week doesn't turn out the same, (as life changes), and I do what I can to adjust the cleaning schedule. A friend told me of a 15-minute idea for cleaning. Set the timer, and tackle a project for that amount of time!
#2 Another new habit I have is sitting quietly before the Lord early in the day. It causes me to become more sensitive to His presence, and more willing to wait on His leading in my prayer time.
(I found a station on Pandora which I listen to, "Hymns 4
Worship Radio", that helps me concentrate on the Lord. I
especially enjoy this music as it has music that I am familiar
with.)
#3 I've begun to walk in the freedom from eating things that I know aren't good for my health. When I ask the Lord for help, I see it really does make a difference! When I'm tempted, I find that I can resist things, and simply walk away.
The book I've been reading: Lysa Terkeurst, MADE TO CRAVE. SATISFYING YOUR DEEPEST DESIRE WITH GOD, NOT FOOD, is a great book.
What I've read so far has helped me to recognize the thoughts that have tripped me up so many times, like "This a special time", and "Everyone else is doing it". I have to stop and remember why I'm not eating such things, and what my goals are.

I'm trying to choose foods
that are better for my health.
#4 Other activities that tend to make me happy are; serving on our church's worship team and
the First Impressions Team, attending a writers
by-weekly group, and a weekly ladies home
group, and receiving counsel on my finances.

That was a joy to me, and
hopefully, a help to them.
John and I traded places each
day, so he could go to the
hospital after work, and be
with Leah and Savanah.
#6 The thing that makes me the most happy is
my relationship to God, through Christ Jesus. Life
is well worth living with His guidance, blessing,
provision, protection, companionship, and presence.
#7 I'm thankful for this blog, Treasures in Christ, for in the challenges I receive through the various authors' messages I share, there will be more changes for me; and with changes, there will come new freedoms to walk in.
#8 The following is a very important admonition from a friend, and I highly recommend we follow it:
Whether it is chores, eating habits, or making a regular diet of Your Word, help us respond in such a way that our lives are blessed.
Help me crave more of You in every part of my life, so I can please You, and be more productive in my Christian walk.
In Christ's Name I pray. Amen.
- Christ makes us alive, and can deliver us from all hurts and sin. Ask Him to heal you! He is Faithful!
- Repent, and make it right, my friend. Allow Him to cleanse you, and give you New Life and a hope for your future!

#119 Present Your personal Petitions to the Lord
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel- Because you are God's child, everything which concerns you is important to God. Nothing is too great or too small to share with your heavenly Father. You pray, not to inform Jesus of what He does not know, but to share your heart's desire, your problems, and your needs.
You come to talk it over with your beloved Lord. He will hear you, for He has been waiting for you to present your personal petitions. (Google image, Child in blue praying)

Why Wait?
Jean Oathout: Ever wonder why the Lord asks us to wait for something?
Do you suppose it may have something to do with His timing of what we're asking for, and whether or not it's best for us?
Maybe we need to examine His thoughts more carefully on the subject, and discover why it is best to wait for God's will to be done, and not our own.
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou
shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." Ps. 32:8
"My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is
from him." Ps. 61:5
God may be refining us, to make us ready to receive what He wants to have happen. There may be thought, speech, and behavior patterns that need changing.
When preparing for marriage, there are a lot of preparations which need to happen before there can be a successful marriage with a commitment that lasts.
Just moving to another place or into different circumstances will not change behavior, only a change in thoughts and habits will accomplish that.
"Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield."
Ps. 33:20
What about other choices? are we interested in what would be best to choose? Waiting on God, seeking information, and securing good counsel are of utmost importance. Hasty decisions make for lives of unrest, troublesome times, and lives that won't be the best in the long run.
Will you be one who wants God's best? I hope so, my friend. Give much thought and prayer to any important life-directional decisions. The God who loves us, really wants what is best for us.
Some more Bible Verses:

"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart; wait, I say, on the LORD." Ps. 27:14 (KJV)
"But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run
and not faint." Is. 40:31 (KJV)
"This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy
One of Israel: 'I am the LORD your God, who teaches
you what is best for you, who directs you in the way
you should go.' " Is. 48:17 (NIV)
The Weight of the Wait By JillSavage on Oct 08, 2015
About the hardest thing to do is to wait...
We feel we need to make decisions when we
are faced with a problem, and some of us
want to act quickly.
It's also natural for us to speak our minds, as to
what we'd like done in the matter, as we actually
believe we know what's best...
Life has, and is, proving that this isn't our
best way to live.We don't know what is
Your plan for our lives.
But You invite us to seek Your wisdom
to give us the best guidance.
Father, may we from now on, be open to Your
Voice in our lives, so we can receive Your best!
I pray this in Jesus' Name. Amen.
Dr. Charles F. Stanley - "People who run from divine direction may attempt to silence the Spirit's reminders by filling their life with distractions. They know what God wants from them but are too proud, stubborn, or scared to comply. What we must understand is that God will pursue us
Some journaling words, that I [Jean] believe the Lord spoke to me to write down: "My plans are good, and because you're waiting for My will to be done, I will show you the value of waiting. It takes years [sometimes] for Me to bring things together for your good, and so I'll receive the glory due to My name." (See Jer. 29:11).
- That is such an encouragement to me, as I've believed God has a purpose and a plan for my life, and that He'll see that it gets done.
- My trying to make things happen has failed miserably (so many times) as no doubt you've found it to be true. It's time we learned to wait on His perfect plans for us, my friend!

So, Tell Me About Forgiveness
Jean Oathout: Do I just say, "I forgive you," and that takes care of it?

#77 Maintain a Special Prayer Burden for the Youth
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: The Youth. Maintain a special prayer burden for the youth and your ministry to them even though you may have a youth pastor.
Pray for (1) an adequately planned ministry to them; (2) the salvation of each; (3) an expanding ministry to youth outside the church; (4) God's call to Christian service for youth of His choosing; (5) training or employment for needy youth; (6) strength to withstand the special temptations of youth.

#139 The Militant Use of Jesus' Name
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel: All forms of Christian prayer—adoration, communion, thanksgiving, praise, petition, and intercession—should be in the name of Jesus.
There is great spiritual significance in the more general use of the name of Jesus in prayer warfare. The general use of the name of Jesus is the basis upon which you build the militant use of the name of Jesus. (Google image, Woman praying)

A SHARING OF FRIENDSHIP
A Sharing of Friendship
"Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7 NLTAnita van der Elst- "Lunchtime approached as we ran errands.
'Where do you want to go to eat?' my husband asked.
Weighing a few options, we settled on a favorite restaurant close to our route. As we enjoyed our food, the attendant escorted three people and a baby past our table to the courtyard beyond. The older woman caught my eye.
'She looks familiar,' I said. 'I think we went to the same church, but I can’t remember her name.'
My husband didn’t think it could be her. After all, it had been at least twelve years prior, in another state, and 1,200 miles away.
But the more I watched, the stronger became the sense that it was my friend.
When I finally remembered her name, I said, 'It will bug me forever if I don’t check.'
Although not something I easily do, I went to her table.
'Excuse me,' I said, 'Is your name Iris?'
She looked at me wide-eyed and said, 'Is that you, Anita?'
We had a wonderful chat. She had moved to help her daughter and son-in-law with their baby.
'Since I don’t know anyone else here, I have been praying that the Lord would help me find friends, and here He brought you right to my table.'
Why did we all choose to go to that restaurant at that time? The table they were seated at could’ve been in a different section or my view in the opposite direction. I didn’t realize God was leading my husband and me that day. We’ve remarked many times since then about how the Lord does His work. Sometimes it is behind the scenes. He places us in significant roles without us even knowing.
Iris and I believe God orchestrated our meeting. She prayed, the Holy Spirit heard and directed, and God met her need for local friendship. It is a delight to be in Bible studies again with this dear lady and to enjoy our fellowship.
No matter your need, you can make your request known to the Lord. He delights to meet it."
Let's pray:
1381-1385 One-line Scriptures for those of you who want to learn some more verses this week- or to review them from when they were first posted-
What a joy it is to obey the Lord, who provides us with His Spirit to counsel and empowers us, and who ensures that everything that happens to us, even the cyclone that brings nothing but distruction, has come through the hedge of His love before it reaches us.
“The prayer warrior stands between the authority and power of heaven and the darkness and power of hell between the Lamb on the throne and Satan, the great dragon. Christ has delegated to the prayer warrior His authority, the right to use His name and plead His blood, and He has armed the warrior for spiritual conquest; the prayer warrior is to enforce the victory of Calvary on the battlefield of earth.”

#40 Prayer Shapes History
Alvin Vandergriend- "Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. (v. 4) The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel's hand. (v. 5) Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake." CHRISTMAS IS OVER . . . YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET!
Christmas is Over... You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet!
By Ron Hutchcraft
"But wait! There's more!"
No, not the line at the end of a TV infomercial...
But the line that lingers at the end of Christmas. Despite all the great that Christmas offers - there's more! So much more!
All those people in the Christmas story - Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the Wise Men - they had been living with anticipation of the coming of the Messiah.
And He came. God in swaddling clothes.
But that's only the beginning. He is coming again!
"All the peoples of the earth will…see the Son of Man coming on the clouds with power and great glory" (Matthew 24:30).
The final chapter of this world's story will not be written by someone in Washington or Beijing or Moscow. It will be written by the One whose birth split history in two! The One the Christmas angels called the "Savior, Christ (Messiah) the Lord."
Yes, it's beautiful and important to look back at His First Coming.
But now we are the ones living in anticipation of the coming of the Messiah. His Second Coming. The destination that is to define our journey. The hope that is to determine our priorities. The glory that brings purpose to our pain.
Looking beyond Bethlehem, we see Jerusalem, where He will return.
Beyond the stable, our eyes are on the skies.
Beyond the manger, we see the Mount of Olives where "on that day His feet will stand" (Zechariah 14:4).
Beyond the helpless Baby, we stand in awe of the conquering King.
And beyond a handful of shepherds bowed before Baby Jesus, we see the whole world on their knees before the King of all kings! "God gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and earth and under the earth" (Philippians 2:9-10).
Speaking of His First Coming, the Bible says, "The grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people... when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, He saved us..." (Titus 2:11; 3:4-5).
Grace came the first time. Glory comes the second time!
And were it not for that grace, Jesus' return would mean nothing but eternal judgment. But because of that grace - that amazing grace - we are "saved." For the Lord of history became the Savior on the Cross. Taking our place, taking all the hell for all our sin on Himself. So He could say to us after our last heartbeat, "Today you will be with Me in paradise" (Luke 23:43).
Christmas beckons "come, let us adore Him." His Return calls us to "come, let us be ready for Him." The Bible suggests there will be two responses when Jesus breaks into the history of every one of our lives - confidence and shame (1 John 2:28).
For those who belong to Him and are living for Him, "Oh, YES!" For those who have never trusted Him as Savior - or aren't living His way - "Oh NO!"
For those of us who have a relationship with Him, Jesus says, "Be careful or your hearts will be weighed down" with things that don't really matter. "That day will close on you suddenly like a trap... be always on the watch" (Luke 21:34-36).
As our heart looks to our King's coming, it challenges our perspective on a lot of things. Our priorities - living, giving, spending on what will matter when we see Him. If it isn't going to matter then, how much should it matter now?
Our purity is illuminated in the light of His Return. "All who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure" (1 John 3:3). What would I be ashamed of if He returned today?
And the coming of Jesus calls us to a sense of urgency about the lost lives around us. The lives who will be lost forever when He returns to earth or comes for them at the end of their life. Is my fear of what might happen to me if I tell them about Jesus greater than my fear of what will happen to them if I don't?
This past couple of weeks, I have stood looking at the manger, in awe of His grace. But today, I stand looking up, in anticipation of His glory. And looking in the mirror asking, "Am I ready?"
For that day when "the Lord will be king over all the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and His name the only name" (Zechariah 14:9).
Father, all those people in the Christmas story had been living with anticipation of the coming of the Messiah. He came in swaddling clothes, and lying in a simple manger! But that's only the beginning, as He is coming again for those who believe in Him and have put their faith in what He did on the Cross so many years ago!
The coming of Jesus calls us to sense the urgency about the lost souls around us. The lives that will be lost forever when He returns to earth or comes for them at the end of their lives. Will we extend the invitation to them to believe in Him, or will we be afraid to speak up?
The final chapter of this world's story will not be written by someone in Washington or Beijing or Moscow. It will be written by the One whose birth split history in two! The One the Christmas angels called the "our Savior, Christ (Messiah) the Lord."
“The more you hear others joining in prayer for the same needs, the stronger your faith tends to become. You become encouraged by the way God is giving faith to them. You become more persevering and more constant in prayer for the need as you find others persevering for the same concern. Heart warms heart. Prayer kindles prayer.
Faith strengthens faith. Courage and expectancy rise, and you are able to plant your feet on God’s promises with new firmness and determination. Others ‘amen’ your prayer, and you ‘amen’ theirs, and step by step you both grow in assurance, lay hold of the throne of God, and are able to agree in prayer (Matt. 18:19).
(From page 132) of MIGHTY PREVAILING PRAYER by Wesley L. Duewel)
We have One alone who can help us navigate the challenges in life. Jesus can tell us the loving and wise instructions of God. In Mark 9:7, we are told to listen to Him by the Father. To live wisely and avoid crashing and burning in this life, we're to listen to Jesus as He speaks through the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit. Our listening to Him will make all the difference!
